Stebos
I was going to finish up my floatplane but got distracted by this kit I spotted last week. It's an amphibious assault ship, rather like a pocket carrier in some ways. It's not the most interesting of ships... but what drew me to it is the extras. It's a diorama in a box! Along with the ship you also get: A section of dockside, 4 LCAC hovercraft, 2 chinooks, 2 seahawks, 2 missile boats, 4 hummers, 6 jeeps, 6 trucks, 2 howitzers, 12 armoured cars and 12 tanks... phew! The level of detail for the scale is excellent. On with the sprues: The ship comes with the upper deck molded clear. This lets you leave all, or part of, the deck clear to see into the internal holds (vehicle holds to the bow, hovercraft to the stern). I'm not a real fan of opening up & showing off such things so I'll likely leave things painted. Hovercraft & chinooks. Vehicles and last of the extras. I have some PE details to come, rails and rotors for the copters. The Shimokita uses steath tech, so the main mast & crane are boxed over so no fiddly trusswork to deal with. Depending on how it comes together on the base I might add a destroyer or something to rebalance the composition. Stebos
A quick update before bed: I've added a 2nd ship to the scene, the Kirishima... As for the Shimokita, I started on the vehicles first as I felt they'd be the most tedious and at risk of being depleted as things progressed. I've finished up the trucks and light vehicles: Painting these things at 1/700 is not much fun let me tell you... I'm pleased with them though. While I've been working through these I started work on the ships, as you can see: Mostly dry fitted for now and they go together fast. With pe being added pretty much last I'll be painting these up soon. The mostly bare Shimokita island: and a further shot showing the transparent sections, I'll be using the deck lift at 1/2 way, and the side loading doors will be open to show off the interior. With a short holiday in april I realise I've only about 3 weeks left to fit all this in, not sure I'll make it but I'll try. Nev
Interesting work so far - those wee truck look good. Mind you, I never did figure out why the Japanese Self Defence Force with its non-aggressionist constitution, needs an amphibious assault ship
hatchet
Now that looks interesting! Great work on those tiny little trucks and Landcruisers Mind you, I never did figure out why the Japanese Self Defence Force with its non-aggressionist constitution, needs an amphibious assault ship The best defence is a good offence?
