Hello all,

Thanks to Steve for agreeing, I'm wandering in late again with a 'build' (I hope !) of this ;

DSC_0056.jpg

Purchased from Vince at Models for Sale last August, if I can get it finished it'll be one of my quickest ever 'bought to built' projects!

It's a relatively simple kit (unlike almost all the other Fujimi 911's that I have which are 'enthusiast models' & which generally take me over a year to build!!), so hopefully I may have a chance to get it done. Not too many parts involved;

My main problem is that my camera with macro function is kaput, so I have to use the dslr which doesn't do macro. So this is a test shot to see what it can do;

Well, that's not too bad I suppose. Won't be able to get any close up detail shots - but that's no bad thing probably!!

First thing to do is decide what colour to paint it - Riviera Blue, Guards Red or Speed Yellow. Hmmmmmm :hmmm:

Hi Keef, welcome aboard, better late than never, I'd go with the speed yellow myself, I might as well pollute your thread with the Escort theme as well..... :offtopic: ...... I hope to get some pics of Bob's car over the weekend, so I will PM them to you, after the weekend. Providing this snow doesn't get any worse, It's just dumped a load of white stuff on my side of the Pennines, and I live out in the sticks, gritters & ploughs are a rare breed this far out. Its getting too the stage us chefs dont season food any more!!!!..... the salt is in such short supply

look forward to following your build.

Regards Ian D

Thanks guys!

Ian, there is no way you could ever "pollute" any thread of mine with Escort stuff, cos I absolutely :wub: them!!! OK, so the 911 comes pretty close in my affections (I've loved them since they first came out in 1965 too!!), but I'm probably one of the few people who would chose an x-pack RS2000 over a 73 911 RS!! (if anyone were ever dull enough to offer me the choice!!)

So, please feel free to talk about Escorts whenever you want!! Be very pleased to see the pics whenever you get the chance - winter seems to have left us down here again, as we just have miserable rain again now :(

Keef

PS I might be bucking the trend here, but the blue is top of the list at the moment, but the yellow (with black wheels?) is pretty close behind! I think we can discount the red then??!!

Perhaps you could start an escort service Keef!

"Perhaps you could start an escort service Keef!"

Er, I don't think I'd generate much business Rob!! :sick::D

Keef

I reckon if you advertised as "Escort Mexico, one careful owner, beautiful body, low mileage but needs servicing" you might be onto a winner Keef.

Well, I don't think so either Jen!! :speak_cool:

So, as long as my pot of Zero Riviera hasn't gone solid, that's what it will be! (and I'm still thinking black wheels???)

Keef

Black wheels sounds good, brings it up to date a bit!

I've always said that if I ever end up affording a Porsche it would be Speed Yellow or Riviera Blue. I did once see a 964RS in a sort of Fuschia colour which looked really good on it, I think it was a proper Porsche colour as I've seen one or two in magazines since. No idea what its real name is though :shrug:

Either way, I'm looking forward to the result on this one :D

Jen.

Thanks Jen! The Porsche colours I really like are the so-called 'safety colours' they used on early 70's 911's - ones like signal orange, blood orange & viper green!! They even gave them such great names!

That Fuschia Porsche colour is Rubystone red, as far as I know it was an exclusive RS colour - & funnily enough it's one of my wife's favourite Porsche colours too.....!!! :)

Right, I'd best crack on with it then.....

Excellent wonder if I could do that the kit could be the not very clever 911 GT2 that Fujimi did the FAT one would have the red stripes and so I blabber onwards :speak_cool:

Give us a break, I'm going to be hard pushed to finish a road car!!!! :bleh:

Funny looking 'outlet' (??) on the front lid of that one, haven't seen one like that before. Wonder what it's for - maybe oil cooler/front rad cooling outlet?? It is a nice car though - I have an old RSR model in need of refurbishment, so maybe one day!!

And I'm used to being last, no change there....!!! :D

Spent yesterday fettling the body a bit, getting rid of the body lines & filling a couple of low spots on the frontspoiler. The only 'mods' I did to the body was to hollow out the solid door handles. Was hoping to get it primed today, but things conspired against me, so hopefully that'll be done tomorrow, with the blue going on on Wednesday, & clear coat on Friday. That'll give it a week to harden off when I can get the interior & chassis done. And then a week to put it all together. Easy peasy!!!

Famous last words.......!!! :rolleyes:

Well, the air turned blue yesterday!! However it was just overspray off the Porsche!! These Zero paints are so nice to spray that naughty words are rarely required! I was pleased to see that the shelf life of the opened jars appears to be pretty good too - this one was first opened about a year ago, & although only half full it still sprayed like a newly opened jar! :speak_cool:

Anyway, here's the shell as she looks now;

(please ignore the 'smudge' on the front hood - that's dust on the camera sensor!)

and the 'chassis' plate;

DSC_0006.jpg

I hope to get the clearcoat on it tomorrow which will give it a good 10 days to harden off before some 'just in time' polishing out & final assembly!! All being well, this might just work!! :pray:

I've also sprayed the rest of the bits with Halfords matt black as a primer/undercoat. Everyone else has gone out today, so I'm making the most of it & am off to do a couple of hours sticking bits together!!

See y'all later.....

Not the most usual choice of color for the elfer, but it sure does look nice on it.

What airbrush do you use? I am in the race for a Evolution-airbrush in time, I used one of those on a airbrush-course a couple of weeks ago, and I was quite pleased with it.

I hope you manage to get this one done before the 2nd, I would love to see how it turns out with clear on it and finished!

Thanks guys!!

Paul, a yellow one is definitely in my future.....!!

Erik, I have two airbrushes, a brand new Iwata that I use for detail work, but this one was sprayed with my 5 year old Aztec double action fitted with a white high flow nozzle. I still think the Aztec is a really good brush, but I made the mistake of trying an Iwata at the Nats last year & was immediately seduced by the HP-CH's superbly engineered feel. It made the Aztec feel like what it actually is - plastic!! So I now use the Aztec for stuff like Zero paint & Auto varnish & keep the Iwata for 'lighter' paints like Valejo model air.
