Hi

I have just found an interesting pictures in the Australian War Memorial web site. It shows a Hurribomber fitted with four small bombs under each port wing.

http://cas.awm.gov.au/PROD/cas_disp_pkg.pr...s_level=Public#

Does someone know more about this type of conversion?.It is the first time I see that kind of arrangements for bombs fitted on a Hurricane. It is a really interesting one.

Many thanks in advance

Kind regards

Santiago

Looks like the "universal carrier" that was used on Swrodfish, Lysanders, and IIRC some Blenheims.

It may be just a regualr fighter with the racks added.

This is more the HurriBomber

Hi

I don’t know why the first link that I posted is broken.

You can find the picture here, (Australian War Memorial / Collection database / Collections Search

http://cas.awm.gov.au/

putting:

Search: MED0125

Conflict: Second World War, 1939-1945

The summary of the picture state:

Cyrenaica, North Africa. c. 26 November 1941. An armourer adjusts the bombs on a Hurri-bomber in the Western Desert. These adapted Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft are doing good work in the Libyan offensive. In a damaging raid on enemy transport on the road from El Adem to Acroma a squadron of Hurri-bombers destroyed an average of three vehicles each.

Thanks. Yes I thought the same. By reading carefully the summary, I imagine than more than one Hurricane was modified with this type of rack. I wonder if we can find something more.

I guess that the first thing could be to know which squadron of Hurricane operated in Cyrenaica, North Africa at that moment (November 1941). Knowing the squadron could make more easy to find pictures of those Hurricane. I guess.

Does someone have any idea of the squadron?

Kind regards

Santiago

Here is another picture

putting:

Search: MED0117

Conflict: Second World War, 1939-1945

The summary of the picture state:

Cyrenaica, North Africa. c. 1941. Straight from the battle front is the bomb-carrying Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft which are being employed as artillery in the Libyan offensive. Operating in close co-operation with armoured columns they have been plastering Nazi troop positions with anti-personnel bombs. Armourers load bombs into the bomb racks.

I hope more information will appear about these Hurricane
