FIAT CR-42 FALCO

Well, this one was started more than a year ago, I don't remember when exactly.

Only a few bits in the pit where glued together, and not even painted.

I've dig up the bow last week end, and the pit is now painted, and the fuselage halves glued.

Didn't thought about taking pics, as there was no way I was going to participate in another GB.

But I've changed my mind.

To be continued...

:)

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, timefor a little update.

I'm working on it for the moment to change my mind from building friul tracks!

photo10.jpg

First, this is really a very, very nice kit!

I shall finish it quite quickly, as it will be a Swedish bird, with skii and a white camo (Just a little bit weathered).

So no trouble from painting tyres, and no masking to do.

I've build the pit as it is, no scratch.

I've just used the panel decals.

Painted green and alu, with some touch of colour here and there.

And in the end, an alu dry brush.

But anyway, there's nearly nothing to see once the fuselages halves are glued!

No problem, I know it there, you know!

The engine is painted black, dry brushed again with alu.

At the moment, I'm gluing the struts, pair by pair.

I think it's the hardest stage of the whole build.

I'll show you the result tomorrow.

Well, maybe tonight in fact.

Battling with wings and struts (And winning???)

photo_42.jpg

The way I choose:

- Start with the center struts (Those going to the fuselage)

- Glue them to the upper wing, with liquid glue, so that it gives me time to adjust them.

- Put the upper wing in place on the fuselage (Without gluing it!), and let the glue dry, as soon as everything is in place, at the right angle.

- Glue the right wing struts on the upper wing (liquid glue).

- Glue the bottom wing to the fuselage (Idem).

photo_43.jpg

- Put the upper wing in place, with every strut end in its hole. Still, do not glue, let the glued struts dry.

- Same thing with the left wing.

The main thing is to give enough time for the glue to dry.

Once it's dry, you'll see that everything goes back straight to its place, when you remove the wing and then put it back.

Tip: Don't use your fingers to push the struts in their holes, specially if you're equipped with sausage-like models like me.

Use a toothpick.

Can someone correct me if I use the wrong words?

I'm not sure about struts..

Most of the paint is finished.

photo_46.jpg

Grey 36440 on the underside, and flat white over (Winter sheme).

I have to "weaher" it a little, as the summer camo could be seen in some places.

Engine and screw.

Alu in front.

And black at the back.

With a little red spinner.

Off to a first coat of varnish.

Very interested in this one, as I know a couple of very good modellers who started this kit, but have said it was 'unbuildable' or 'dreadful' - your build proves that wrong!!

Thanks, but maybe its the fact that I don't want to build it as a very high standard, but only as a fun and short build.

I didn't do any scratchbuilt, everything is from the box.

I like this, but you should have dumped the top wings... it looks funny with just those short stubby lower ones

You're right, it looks like some sort of high speed skidoo!

I've started the weathering before the second coat of varnish, to paint the camo chips.

I've used some green and sand form a lifecolor set destined to... Regio Esercito vehicles!!!

photo_51.jpg

The whole thing.

Upper wing.

Fuselage.

Scratched a little bit around the cowling to let the alu undercoat appear.

The cowling itself, from (very) close up.

Got to get rid of these hair from ... I don't from where they're!!

No, their complaints were on fit of parts - you seemed to manage fine!

So, maybe they didn't get the same kit?

:smartass:

In the pics, you can see that the wing is not glued, it's on and off, as I paint and take pics.

I can tell you that everytime that I put the wing back in place, each pin is exactly in its place.

In fact, the instruction sheet is not very clear for the wings, not showing a step by step, but every parts at the same time!

You've got to find yourself the easiest way.

I think the way I choose is good, quite good, and maybe this make the difference?
