yes gruffy old bean , german fabic was made of linen , but it wasn't as good as the irish matierial . flax didn't grow too well the german climate , so they had to thicken it up , thus increasing the weight . the british empire was built on textiles , they had the knowhow and the raw matierial on tap . :pilot: - by the way , there's a thread (sorry) going on here - theaerodrome.com/forum/ - they are trying to resolve , once and for all the dfferent types and colours . and they are availiabe as downloads for anyone that fancies a go with a printer . :pilot: just go to 'models' then scroll down to 'lozenge test for all '

As mentioned already, The Aerodrome is the best site for WWI - the guys there know everything there is to know. Watch out for the occasional "spat" that develops between the contributors on some tiny detail of WWI trivia.
