PBY-5 Catalina, `Black Cat', 321 Sqn, Royal Netherlands Navy, Australia.

Hiya Folks,

This is an old one,..... I built this 1/72nd scale Revell PBY-5 Catalina kit well over 10 years ago and it has been in the loft ever since,..... when the missus brought it down for me to clean I realised that I had never photographed it, so took some this morning. It represents a Black Cat flown by 321 Sqn of the Royal Dutch Navy in Australia during the latter half of WW2 and the decals came from Dutch Decals.

A lovely looking Catalina Tony, with a great finish as usual.

Is it just me or does the Cat look a little bit sinister in black?

Cheers and yes,....most definitely,..... I`m planning on building an Aussie Black Cat soon,..... just trying to work out the upper wing,.... whether to add camo or not and in what colour if I do!

Cheers

Nice Catalina!

All-over black is difficult to get right, but I reckon you nailed it.

I imagine the real aircraft was a refugee from the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), following the Japanese invasion.

Well done, Mate.

That's nice, Tony. I'm currently fighting with the Academy version on my bench at the moment. I notice that yours has a completely different undercarriage arrangement to mine, with a tailwheel rather than a nosewheel.

Thanks Vinnie,...... the one that I`ve built is a straight PBY-5 flying boat and the wheels are the beaching gear that was attached to get the `boat' ashore and not for use in the air. Yours sounds like the PBY-5A amphibian with retractable tricycle undercarriage.  Easy mistake to make as both airframes are all but identical!

Goodluck with your model,

Cheers
