US Navy orders the removal of all CAG and non standard schemes on front line aircraft

Haven't read anything on that page that specifically states the end of special markings and colours but I can see where it may come from...  CAG aircrafts now have to adhere to standard USN corrosion control procedures. I have the official USN corrosion control documents (they can also be found on the web) and what they require is the use of approved "paint systems". All the various greys are available in approved paint systems, some basic colours also are, but a lot of colours previously seen on CAG aircrafts may well not be available as such.

Not surprising really, admirals only like grey.  Or gray presumably in the USN.   They probably really want it to be battleship gray, actually painted on a proper battleship in their heart of hearts!

Another of those periodic sense of humour failures, by the sound of it.  All air forces go through cycles of jolly colour schemes followed by someone taking exception to them, followed a few years later by the jolly colour schemes coming back.  It's probably the third time around by now.

Sad times as without a doubt this undermines moral.

As the article says people go the extra mile on these jets and dont like them being taken away.
