National insignia, fin flash and codes were painted on only the Tail number, kill markings and Red hand of Ulster elbelm are decals. The lack of color almost kills any of these projects at the outset, yet if you shade it carefully just as you have done you manage to get some "depth" out of the "camouflage void". I likewise did the Defiant recently but struggled with the Bolton turret, finally aiming it sideways and opening up the glass entry door in the back. I like the way you have it facing forward. I can't help but wonder if those guns were synchronized with the prop? Now that would be a thing! I think there was limiter that stopped the guns from being fired when they were pointed aft or fully forward (but I could be wrong - I usually am!) However the air gunner had to lock the turret into the forward position, and set the master switch to ' pilot. The pilot could now fire the guns the same way as in the Hurricane and Spitfire, via the gun button on the spade grip. But the guns had to be elevated to a minimum of 22 degrees above the horizontal for the lowest .303's to clear the propeller arc. In August 1940, Boulton Paul and the Air Ministry began looking at fitting fixed armament in the wings for new build airframes but this was dropped three months later. 4 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
