Her Hurricane, Airfix Hurricane MK 1 1/72.

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, the good lady wife Rose has decided to hit the bench again.

She finds the hobby relaxing and therapeutic for her mental illness.

So without more excess wind her is the pics.

Box F

Box B

Runners

Clears Decals

A basic kit for markings but a nice detailed kit for her to get her teeth into.

It may be a slow run but once she going she will enjoy it.

All comments welcome.

Its nice to be joined by the distaff side in our esteemed hobby

I'll enjoy this, there's one in a box 'over in the other room'

I can use the lady as inspiration to get it on

I'm on with one at the moment. If you want the whatever squadron decals came with it let me know. I'm doing a foreign or whiffer

Thanks for the off Darby, I think the kit ones will do for her for now.

She is just happy to be on the bench.

But once she gets this one done plus a few others, then we never now.

As I'm doing one of these at the mo, I'll be following the build.

Welcome Chris, how fast the build goes I don`t know but now she has got the confidence now to sit at the bench we will see.

BTW what colour for the interior sir, the destructions call for Dark Green, I say Interior Green XF 71.

The Starter Sets' paint callouts are modified to use what's supplied in the pots. Interior Green or (possibly) silver would be the go (I think). No doubt Troy will be along presently to add to the details. (And if he doesn't show, someone can call him.)

Well done to the Lady, and I'm one of those with this kit in the stash who'll be following along to see how it goes together.

I'm building this version as an RCAF Hurricane.

Hurc kit

The directions call for the bottom to be painted Humbrol 156 Matt Dark Grey on the bottom with Humbrol 78 Matt Cockpit Green above.

I'm doing mine with Citadel Mithril Silver ( the best I had at the time ) below and I'll be using an old bottle of Polly Scale British Interior Grey Green above.

Cheers Chris, she will go with that then sir.

The is a nice bit of detail moulded on the cockpit walls to highlight , maybe a wash?

You are welcome Rob, she is getting a good feeling about this build.

And once she finishes the Hurricane who knows what the next one will be.

OK folks, Lady Rose has made a start on the model.

A few parts cut off and cleaned and dry fitted.

Not a bad fit , may be a touch of filler but reasonably good.

P and P 1

U/C bay semi built awaiting primer.

P and P 2

Front wall.

P and P 3

C/C plus rudder bar assembly.

P and P 4

And Pilot Derek, sorry blurry pic.

Pilot Derek

This lot now waiting for primer and paint, hopefully by the weekend.

She found it fiddly but enjoyable so far, with more fun to come.

All comments welcome.

Yes, this is good therapy; I use it to preserve what's left of my own mental well-being (not spoken in jest).  An excellent, creative and expressive displacement strategy of which I heartily approve.  And it's developing nicely!  More power to you, M'Lady!

Go for it Girl! As a sufferer from mental illness myself, I can confirm that this hobby does one good. In fact my doctors always seem happier if they know I have been modelling. Here's hoping that you benefit as much.

Thank you Chillidragon, the Lady Rose uses the hobby well, she enjoys that buzz.

She built a couple of models and the thrill of seeing them completed gives her great happiness.

Martian, the Lady Rose could not agree with you more strongly.

A couple of short sessions at the bench is not the cure all but helps to reduce the stress of her illness.

Oh, I will look at this of course Simon and Lady Rose. The new Airfix kit looks like a pleasure to build. Like the wheel well. One of the shortcomings on most of the other kits around. Cheers

As stated Benedikt, it is not a bad kit.

Minimal flash and some nice engraving and texture added to the fuselage.

I'm in on this also. Have just finished one of these myself, with another in the stash plus the Alleycat metal wing, so I can start hacking it about!

Here is the RFI

This IMHO is one of Airfix's finer models, and I thoroughly enjoyed making it.

Enjoy the build Rose!

Nice to have a lady at the bench. This kit is very good (just take care with the gear legs, thin and quite fiddly). So Rose shall make a bud grow into a flower for us.

Following. Enjoy your build.
