Fiat G.50 Freccia from SBS Model

Around mid last year, FLY had announced a G.50 bis.  Spotted these over at Scalemates, SBS has a couple in the 1/72nd range as well;

Very interesting and unexpected announcement. SBS generally makes high quality products and I'm sure that these will be very good kits

At the same time I wonder what interest a resin kit of a type already available in plastic can raise. Granted, this kit will be more detailed that the older AML ones, and may well be easier to build. Pricewise though it's likely to be way more expensive than the competition, I can really only see the most fervent G.50 fans looking at this one instead of the Fly kit

Giorgio,  all good points you make.

Outwardly, is there any difference in appearance between the Freccia and Bis - as I understand the Bis has an additional fuel tank internally, so maybe an extra access cover?

I seem to remember the rudder hinge-line was changed from a straight line to a stepped line and the early smooth cowling got little bumps for the Bis? Not sure if there was anything else though...

Cheers,

Stew

Did the Fly kit ever come out? I know they said they were doing one but I haven't seen anything else about it.

Good point, since we don't know yet when the Fly kit will hit the market, this SBS kit may well be the only around, at least for a while.

The AML kit can still be found but I believe it's now OOP.

Regarding the G.50 bis, this variant had a different tail and rudder and also a different shape of the whole rear fuselage. The tailwheel is also in a different position.

The cowl did indeed have the small bulges but IIRC there were not immediately introduced. They were present on most Bis anyway so are an important feature. There were other small differences in panel lines and other details.

Converting a G.50 into a Bis is possible but involves a bit more work than apparent to a quick look. It should be added that in the same way as with other Italian WW2 fighters, a number of small and not so small modifications were introduced over the various construction blocks without any change in the official aircraft designation, modellers with a particular interest in all small details have a hard time when dealing with these subjects

Looks very good, but the 40 Euro price has put the brakes on this one.  At least Hannants is providing a 10% discount if you pre-order.

Please let me introduce one of my latest design for SBS Model! This is a conversion from my former design of the italian Fiat G.50 fighter. Many years ago I did the "hard chopped top" version with opened cockpit. After many years, beers and discussions with SBS crew, we decided to go up to the wall and try to make the early version of the fighter. It was a real challenge for both of us, in design and in production points but we achived! This CAD is a redesigned and optimized for the best performance!

The 1/72th scale kit announced here: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid07Mhv5yuhh3cZcT9iYHazomV2twXCqYS8ijfm6Tvq1xRz6C8RgDdDsmbaJGP32wyxl&id=100059696543808

Here I come with some exclusive renders!

Hope you like it!
