For our final day we ventured 120 miles due east of Chitose to the base at Obihiro to see if we could get any shots of the Cobras based there. Occasionally, the Ground Self Defence Force paints some of it helicopters in a special winter camouflage and on the basis of nothing ventured, nothing gained we decided to give Obihiro a go.

 

Unfortunately it was a bit of a slow day with movements limited to the OH6 below and two Cobras. The AH1s were operating from an apron right in the middle of the base behind some trees which made it impossible to get next to. In contrast the OH6 operated from an area right next to us albeit there was an industrial yard in the way. Nevertheless we had the opportunity for a prolonged session as the student at the controls was given a good work out by the instructor and the weather was again glorious.
