The 2nd SS Panzer Division has to be one of the most infamous German units of WWII due to two massacres of French Civilians. Up to that point it had fought in most of the operations of the Germany Army with the exception of the Italian Campaign.

This book in the Casemate Illustrated series combines text, pictures, maps to bring us the Divisions  history from formation, through the blitzkrig campaigns in Poland, and then the low countries, then into France. Later they would move into Yugoslavia, and Russia as part of Operation Barbarossa. When the Allies invaded Normandy the Division was in Southern France and was thrown into Operation Luttich , the German counter offensive. The Division was encircled by the US 2nd Armoured Division at Roncey loosing most of its equipment their. The Division was finally surrender to the Allies in May 1945. Unfortunately the Division will be remembered for the massacres of 100 civilians in Tulles, and 642 civilians in Oradour-sur-Glane long after its military achievements have been forgotten. The book is A5 in format, 128 pages long and contains many contemporary photographs.
