tonyot
Hiya Folks, Another quick update,... been whittling and sanding away while watching the Rugby today!; Academy/Eduard; Checking up my references and photos I realised that the RCAF Lib had its mid upper turret removed after moving from the ASW role to Met Duties,.....so the opening was enlarged using a file and the blanking plate from the Hasegawa kit was to be used to cover it over; DSCF2730 by Tony OToole, on Flickr You can see it here in place and covered with filler , ready to blend it in with a sending session later. Also,... the engine nacelles of the Academy kit have quite a few sink marks now that the moulds are getting old, so these were filled, plus the panel detail is very faint and has vanished altogether in some places, so as the nacelles are a very important part of the aircraft these were re scribed and will hopefully show up under a couple of coats of paint now. DSCF2732 by Tony OToole, on Flickr I`ve also done a bit more sanding, filling and sanding of both models and getting them prepared for painting,....... maybe tomorrow? Cheers for now, Tony Edited March 17, 2018 by tonyot
tonyot
Hiya Folks, Another quick update,.....almost ready to start painting,...the wings were test fitted and the parts needing to be sprayed white were prepared by sticking them onto a length of tape; Academy/Eduard; DSCF2734 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Hasegawa/Eduard DSCF2736 by Tony OToole, on Flickr And here are the parts of both kits during painting,.....although I ran out of matt white undercoat, which is a bit of a bummer! DSCF2737 by Tony OToole, on Flickr I`ll be brush painting the upper surfaces, varnish etc. Cheers Tony
tonyot
Another update,....... Painting underway with the brush now, applying the upper surface TSS camouflage, starting with Aeromaster Dark Slate Grey; Hasegawa/ Eduard; DSCF2739 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Academy/ Eduard; DSCF2740 by Tony OToole, on Flickr I have also made paper outline copies from the decals for nose art and made masks, ready to apply the yellow later. I`ve also dug out a set of resin wheels with the pattern of tread suitable for the Canadian aircraft,..... I have a set for the RAF aircraft somewhere too; DSCF2741 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Cheers, Tony
tonyot
Hiya Folks,.....another update,..... First,.... the resin Eduard Brassin wheels for the SEAC Liberator with the cross tread have arrived; DSCF2742_NEW by Tony OToole, on Flickr And painting was almost over on the models with the application of the upper surface camouflage scheme; Hasegawa/Eduard; Using Aeromaster Dark Slate Grey and Pactra EDSG, trying to replicate a slightly sun bleached look, but not overly done; DSCF2745_NEW by Tony OToole, on Flickr And the wings and fins attached with propellers in place, and the leading edges of the flying surfaces painted,.......judging by the available photos the rubber de icing boots on the inner wing were removed but those on the outer wing retained,... and those on the fins had been overpainted with white which had worn away along the bottom due to exhaust gases etc. Note the blanking plate fitted over the mid upper turret too. For their 15+ hour special duties flights in support of agents and guerillas as far afield as Borneo the mid upper turret was removed plus the nose guns,....often the waist guns too and long rang fuel tanks were fitted in the forward bomb bay; DSCF2750 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Academy/Eduard; Using Aeromaster Dark Slate Grey and Humbrol enamel 123 EDSG plus Humbrol 24 Trainer Yellow for the nose; DSCF2747 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF2749 by Tony OToole, on Flickr The wings and fins have been attached and the rubber de icing boots represented on the front of the flying surfaces. The propellers have been attached and a white stripe still needs to be added to each hub cover. A resin radar `dustbin' from the Czechmaster Liberator conversion set will also be fitted. DSCF2752 by Tony OToole, on Flickr The Academy (RCAF) model has had Humbrol 35 gloss varnish applied ready for the decals and the other model will receive its own coat shortly, ready for the decals, Cheers for now Tony Edited March 25, 2018 by tonyot
Brandy
These are really starting to look the part now the paint is on. Looking forward to more updates..... Ian
tonyot
Thanks Ian,...... here is another update; Academy/Eduard; Most of the decals are on now,.....just stencils. The letter `A's' don`t appear quite right, too tall and narrow, so I lopped off the top of each letter to make them appear more squat. Also the serial is black when it should also be grey. The nose area still requires some detail painting with black and I need to find some red lines for the propeller warning marking on the fuselage; lib1 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Hasegawa/Eduard; The DK Decals for this aircraft are superb, I`ve always wanted to model this particular Lib; lib3 by Tony OToole, on Flickr lib2 by Tony OToole, on Flickr I`ve sealed the decals in with Kleer,....... time to start some weathering. Cheers Tony Edit,....just realised that I have got the SNAKE marking wrong on the right hand side,.....I was rushing to catch the light for photos so took a 50-50 gamble,..... and having checked up I`m wrong!! tonyot
Cheers Fellas,..... another short update,.... Well following a couple of coats of matt varnish I`ve run a knife over the panel lines and then put a watercolour wash on both models,..... which I`ll rub away once it is almost dry; DSCF2756 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF2757 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF2758 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Getting there now,......towards the homeward run and hope to have them finished over Easter, Cheers Tony

FalkeEins
indeed.. a fantastic addition to your shelf of US types wearing roundels. Which book are you using for reference, the Pateman 'Bridge busters..' or the other one, 'RAF Libs over Burma' ?

tonyot
Cheers folks,...... I`m almost there now! Which book are you using for reference, the Pateman 'Bridge busters..' or the other one, 'RAF Libs over Burma' ? For this SEAC Lib I`m using quite a few sources with photos depicting this aircraft, including some old issues of Aviation News! In fact,..... although I`ve still got a bit to do on the Canadian aircraft,..... the SEAC one is now finished! I added a set of Rebecca antenna from an old Revell Havoc kit, suitable thinned down, along with the resin wheels and other pre painted items. The nose turret was left without guns as per the SD role and despite adding lots of weight into the nose, the model was still a tail sitter,...which isn`t a problem as most RAF Lib`s had a box placed under the tail skid while on the ground at some point; DSCF2766 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF2772 by Tony OToole, on Flickr I`ll stick a RFI on for this aircraft,....... hopefully the RCAF one will be a day or so, Cheers Tony Edited March 31, 2018 by tonyot 13

It did scare me a bit Steve and I was very worried about that nose art,..... but it just had to be tried!! Masking off the yellow to match the outline of the decals was quite hard and a little touching up was needed after they ere applied!
