Hi to you all

I have been lurking around for a couple of years and have finally summed up the courage to join in. I have been modelling since my early years but only sporadically due to life and too many interests. I definitely remember building some Airfix ships when I was young but not sure what else. I graduated to building motorcycles in my late teens and then a bit later moved onto vintage cars. The Falklands war kicked off an interest in military and a visit to an airshow at Brize Norton started me off with V Bombers, which has become a bit of an obsession. As I worked as a commercial vehicle fitter I also started building trucks. After quite a gap due to the acquisition of a SWMBO I started again on vintage cars. This was due to the acquisition of a Bandai Bugatti Royale on Ebay. Unfortunately life took over as my lad got into Warhammer so it was building 40k models for a while. Since he grew up I have gone back to cars.

I get very little time probably only two or three hours a week so progress is slow. I am a serial starter but not finisher so have many on shelf/loft of doom. Even after all these years I am still rubbish at it. I have learnt loads from this site so thanks to all. I have always brush painted but after finding paints don’t seem to be as good as they were and some colours impossible have graduated to rattle cans which always have to be done outside. The models I have finished look OK on a shelf but not close up which I am happy at the moment but I am always hoping to improve every time. Cars and trucks seen easier but I am yet to build a decent looking plane. I have managed to find a space to work in my sons old bedroom but as everything has to be packed away every time it limits the amount I can do. Hopefully as semi-retirement is looming, more time will arrive.

I could go on but that is enough of my waffle, I look forward to drooling over all your models (sorry I mean the pictures) and being able to comment.

Hello and welcome into the light, I know people people who never finish a model (well one in 10 years that I’ve seen) so you are doing better than him. I too have to get everything out as and when I want to build something, mostly cars and aircraft and finish about 3 - 4 a year. As for the finished model as long as you enjoyed building it and are happy with the result that’s all that Matters!

Hello cherry268 ... :welcome: to Britmodeller from the USA. Im glad you've decided to stop lurking and become a part of the community. I have a friend that builds cars and he says hes lucky if he does a single piece a week. I think you're ok with 2-3 hours. Personally I build aircraft and armor. I think of Model building as an escape from daily life since mine is a bit depressing (disabled) sometimes. I have days where all i do is stare and maybe clean up a little. Anyway enough about me ... I’m looking forward to seeing your work soon. If i can help with anything please ask.

Greeting from the far west. Don't worry about a slow pace. I've been on here for ten years and haven't finished any of the two or three that I've started in that time. Right now I'm over a month into an Airfix 1/72 Hurricane Mk.I and have just 3 pieces glued together. I build at a positively glacial pace.

:welcome:, cherry, to Britmodeller, you're typical of a lot of us here, myself included. I like your avatar; my step-daughter had a Yorkie with the same type of coloration. My present little buddy is a little different in terms of color; but, a great companion just the same. Glad to see that you decided to stop lurking. As the others have mentioned; don't worry about a slow pace. There's no punishment for taking your time! I'm Joe, live in SE Wisconsin, USA. My interests are 1/72nd aircraft, no particular era. The people here are always ready to help. Hope to see your work, comments, and, questions.

Joe

Welcome! Nothing wrong with building slow. I build F1 cars slowly (when I can't be bothered to weather stuff) and aircraft (mostly WWII and weathered) even slower.

There's a good FAQ on posting pictures on the forum, though it took me a couple of goes to get the hang of it. One thing that threw me originally was that I hadn't set the permissions on the pics from 'private' to 'public' on the hosting site.
