DIORAMAS I WOULD LIKE TO BUILD

Couple of ideas i have for vignette’s or small Dio’s. First a jet mothballed at AMARC. I have an old monogram B-36 i may do this with. But heres the general look with an F-18.uuMJCgO.jpg

That and an Gate Guard/Memorial on a plinth like this.  fa3Ik9P.jpg

Both are going to be done someday just have to figure out what planes i want to use.

@Corsairfoxfouruncle, that reminded me of an incident at RAAF Base Wagga. One night, before daily parade, the trainee apprentices disassembled a de Havilland Vampire and reassembled it around the flagpole. It could not be wheeled away without disassembling the tail section. It caused a lot a silent laughter during parade, especially in raising the RAAF flag.

You could do a A-6E Intruder with the wings removed.

They don't call me the 'the ideas man' for nothing you know (or at all, come to think of it).

Hello @Gorby ... Actually not a bad idea but. I will be getting a pair of wings sometime in may. Same guy that gave me the kit. Has another A-6 but i guess hes using it for parts. He said i can have the wings when he comes here to move his stored stash. Most of the kits I've built over the last 18 months i got from him. He has a storage unit in chicago filled with kits, even though he lives on Florida. He said i can take my pick of whats left again when i help him clear it out next month.

I've always wanted to do the Thunderchild vs a Martian tripod, but I've never seen tripod kit that I liked that fit the original book desciption.

I've always favoured the original illustration version from when the story was originally published in "The Strand". (I think)

This would be another good one since it shows the breakdown of the tripods.

I really like the way we used to look at the future.

The 19th century views and ideas about what the 21st century technology would be like are endlessly fascinating.

Wow! That's an amazing photo.

I'm not good with heights, so seeing those bod at the top of those ladders makes every atom of my bodily-bits clench.

Just worked out that if it was done in 1/72, it would be nearly 3.5 meters long and would almost certainly cost your your sanity.

Or, you could use this 1/1000 kit. But I think it would still cost your your sanity, and good luck with the ladders.

It would be good to have a virtual 3D model that you could do a fly through the centre of the structure.

A few years ago I built a small diorama based on a combination of the ancient play by Euripides and Tennyson's poem; "Iphigenia in Aulis". Trouble is, I was never all that happy with it cos it looks like the action was taking place in the middle of a swamp. With the recent BBC/Netflix series, "Troy; Fall of a City", I'm now winding myself up to do it all over again on a larger base, with an expanded cast of characters as well as most of the initial figures. If I'm careful dismantling it, then I can probably use the original swamp-like base for a "Jason and the Golden Fleece" scenario.

In addition, having recently, (and somehow or other), got through the entire first season of "Britannia", I'm also toying with the idea of a Fantasy Roman vs Britons diorama. Still trying to work out how I can reflect the sheer acid-trip weirdness of the TV series though.

Another one I'm presently kicking around is a diplomatic mission from the far-off Empire of the Han Dynasty being escorted through the Carpathian Mountains by a detachment of Roman Legionnaires -- when an unholy, and utterly terrifying, howl goes up from the nearby forest....ULP..!!

Although I love aircraft, I'm fascinated when I see crashed or scraped air-frame models/dioramas. My skill and my budget wouldn’t be up to the task, but I think this scene would make a good diorama.

Don't sell yourself short on your skills mate. I've seen what you can do. The above would be a piece of cake for you.

Budget wise, the diorama does not have to have the same aircraft, and the other scrap bits can almost be anything, and it does not have to be from aircraft, as long as it looks as if it comes from aircraft. As my Drill Sargent once said to me, "B.S. baffles brains".

The other thing to remember is that small scale plane kits are cheaper. Carriages can be built, but I think you may have to buy a very cheap second hand toy train set to get the carriage wheels and tracks.

Well, that's my two bobs worth.

No need to buy a set, wheel sets, track and even wagon kits are all available individually :tooth:

I am in the same boat. If it costs too much, one looks for alternatives before abandoning the idea.

Narvik shipwreck 1940.  My grandad gave me original pictures he obtained during the war.  This one isn’t mine but I have some copies scanned in...

There is a difference in how we see things, when there is a personal tie to it in some way or other.

I have a few diorama scenes on my mind, but I know that some of them wouldn't mean anything to most others. If I did build them, they would only be for me.

However, I have created a large collage diorama (not a model) of a road cycling incident I was in. I used it as a means for art therapy.

Though it's not a scene that most people would want to view, but it is all important to me. I have it hanging above my bike stand.

Every time I get my bike ready for another ride, I get reminded to be prepared.

This type of diorama, model or not, is a snapshot of what our soul holds.

One diorama I would like to build is based on what my grandmother told me about my grandfather.

He was, at one time, captain for the Polish soccer team (between WWI and WW2).

To arouse the crowed and fans he would enter the soccer field walking on his hands.

To most, it wouldn't mean anything. To me it means a great deal.

Thanks bar side for sharing.

Know what you mean.  My other grandad was killed at Arnhem, not at the bridge but pushing up the road.  Walking round there now it’s difficult to imagine the scene, but it makes more sense in 3D.  By the way the grandad with the Narvik photos didn’t take them, he confiscated them from a German POW at the end of the war.  I ended up with both the photos and his binoculars.  Think my dad still has his knife.  But it was all part of the tale my grandad told me as a kid.  He didn’t say as much as I would now have liked - I think I only ever got edited highlights.  Think that’s true of many of his generation.  Another Narvik photo (I can link my Flickr pics, so this is one of mine)

German plane wreckage

Ju-52 landed on the frozen water and then left/abandoned until the ice melted.  Another that grandad handed to me & said “you won’t see that happening again!”

Torpedo Launch

Also a bit of live night firing - all German navy around 1940
