photos.... slow progress but enjoyable (could do with more positive locations on some of the pieces or clearer diagrams in the instructions but so far no major issues)

Hi Rob

This looks to be just about as much fun as that Mirror Models Diamond T Wrecker I built a while back.

The rather large  and multiple sprue attachments on every part that needed to be cut with an Xacto knife rather than a sprue cutter.

Then there were the number of parts, small parts , multiple parts for the simplest things when 1 or 2 larger parts would do, and the fits weren't all that great.

And the instructions were almost Dragon style, exploded views but not the view you really need from that odd angle and rather poor descriptions.

Having said all that, it did turn out to be an excellent model, just the building was a chore, so I'm sure this wrecker will be great when you beat it into

submission too. These wreckers sure are busy at the rear end and quite a bit more tedious to build than the normal AFV.

Take care,

Lloyd

Merged this down, as both topics were still bumping along.  @robw_uk, you'll have to de-dupe it where necessary, and if you decide to move something in future, it's easier just to ask a Mod to move the thread.  :)

more progress... had to re-position the winch frame as it was not perpendicular to the frame... but slowly it is beginning to take shape

Nice work on this. I remember a similar, possibly SWB, vehicle mouldering away on the farm. Possibly ex RN, as I recall very worn thin blue paint  over white. We were near Rosyth and various supply depots. Not the sort of thing kids took pictures of in those days.

finally the build is done so its heading to the paint shop... this nearly went the distance today, its not 100% level I think but need to see when the components go on.

so painting

chassis, cranes, a-frame will be red (from games workshop)

cab and flat-bed will be blue (vallejo model air)

dont intend to weather, its a "restored, display" model rather than something used ever day

Looking really good. Love these old military vehicles in civilian use.

Thanks Dave.... Would love another similar and do it beaten up

Think it would be a good practice on weathering

coronavirus lockdown shelf queen project... dusted this off (literally) - aiming to complete the build but cannot touch up paint as desk is being used as home office
