1/350 HMS Meteorite

Recommended Posts

Evening All.

Here I present my first sub in this scale. This is Mikro Mir's offering of HMS Meteorite, ex U-1407, a Type XVIIB Coastal Submarine. The story goes, that three of this type were built and promptly scuttled towards the end of WW2. One of these, U-1407, was salvaged and taken to the UK where it was refitted with captured machinery. It was subsequently used as a 'Trials' Submarine. A kit of few parts that included some PE and was a simple build. A hypodermic needle was used for the periscope and an aerial added using Uschi elastic. The addition of Tamiya figure in overalls adds to the scale.

Was it this one that was powered with hydrogen peroxide or some such?

High Test Peroxide (HTP) I believe. I think it was looked at as an alternative to Nuclear propulsion as it was independent of air.

A nice model of an interesting  subject. Good job Courageous, and

Mikro Mir seem to be going from strength-to/strength.

Cheers Steve. MikroMir are definitely a great help in doing Brit Subs, hopefully they'll increase their range.

Nicely done Stuart, the little additions make all the difference to these kits.

Cheers Chris. Although I have added the aerial, I feel I need to go up in thickness so that it can be seen better.

It is tiny though isn't it ??

Cheers Ken. The little figure is the key as it shows, in this case, how small these boats were.

Looking forward to your XVIIB.
