Adventures with my Airbrush : Part 3 - Filth

Recommended Posts

Got an airbrush for Christmas.

Did this to see how it worked.

Did this to see if I could pre-shade.

Going to do this to see if I can do filth, grime and paint chips.

Millennium Falcon filthy, not agricultural vehicle filthy.

It has been a while, but I managed to get a bit done today.

Masks cut. Hopefully I'll get it primed tomorrow as long as life doesn't get in the way again.

Seeing it blown up on the screen has shown me that I need to do a bit of trimming though.

Once again the kit is a bit "Italeri". As much as I like them I'm looking forwards to doing one from a different manufacturer. The next build is already in the planning stages!

Everything looks doo-doo when It's blown up 20 times lager than life. For that scale (1/72?) that's pretty good masking.

Good luck with your airbrush experiments, and have fun.

Crew access hatches have vanished. Will make some out of quiche-tin foil. This will give me some definition, hide the join seam and allow me to chip back the paint to reveal real metal beneath.

Pre-shade, pre-fade* and flat aluminium added. Hopefully some, but not too much, of it will show through the top coat of olive green.

This thing saw action in the Pacific, so I'm assuming that the paint would fade in the sunlight.

There are also some blobs of Copydex to take the paint right back down to the aluminium for chipping and to reveal a rather expensive looking scrape along one of the bomb bay doors.

* Not seen the term "pre-fade" on here yet, but I'm new. Feel free to use it ;-)

Top coat and smoke on. Paint chips exposed.

Quite pleased with Tamiya "Smoke"

I should have bought an airbrush ages ago! I really like the shading effects that I can create and the speed of it all.

The discolouration around the forward aerial will be painted out. I knocked it off and glued it back on.
