Hello all,

Here is my next project - Tamiya's wonderful 1/48 F-16C, marked as a CM of the 480th Fighter Squadron (Spangdahlem AFB), during Operation Inherent Resolve in 2016.

Kit:

Extras:

40228313261_9a5e9bce74_b.jpg

Will be using Eduard Brassin GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs (SDB), Pavla seat, Bullseye decals, Master brass pitot tube, Master static wicks, Sniper pod and a left sided Harm Targeting Sensor (HTS), both from Hasegawa Weapons set E. The kit will be armed with 2x AIM-120, 2x AIM-9X (both from the kit), 4x GBU-39, 2x GBU-38 (from the spares) and an ALQ-131 ECM pod (from the spares).

Here's the scheme i'll be going for:

Made a brief start on this one earlier today. Cockpit assembled, along with the main landing gear bay/engine:

Upper fuselage halves, with various parts added:

NB; the fin housing normally has screws and some flat head pins to affix the tail fin, however these were missing from my kit so hopefully there won't be any issues fitting the parts without them. Underside, with landing gear bay attached:

Ordnance:

Few small bits of clean up required. The GBU-38s are from an Academy F-15E, Sniper and left side HTS are from Hasegawa Weapons set E, age SBDs and pylon are lovely examples from Eduard Brassin, the ALQ pod is from the spares (feels like Italeri plastic), the dual bomb rack for the -38s is from the spares and everything else is from the kit.

More soon.

There is an option for that scheme on the decal sheet, however i'm not overly confident with applying the 'Have Glass' scheme to the model, so i plumped for the traditional scheme, with plenty of mission marks!

More done. Cockpit painted:

The airframe just fell together after that:

Small touch of filler needed around the intake lip just to smooth things off. Think this is probably my fault as opposed to the kits!

More soon.

More done. Added the tail fin, main landing gear, nose cone, flaps and some pylons. Some filler needed around the nose, something which I don't recall being needed on my previous Tamiya F-16s:

Added the respective racks for the SDBs and GBU-38s to the kit pylons:

Just need to clean up the minimal filler and add a few small bits before masking and painting.

More soon.

That fell together quickly! :thumbsup2: Nice to see a bang up to date version - are you sure we can't change your mind about the Have Glass scheme

Just started the 1/32 version. It IS living up to the hype!

Long overdue update on this one. Most of the planting is completed. First up, the ordnance, which has also been glossed, with decals added and a wash applied:

Exhaust and ejection seat:

Airframe painted, ready for a gloss coat prior to the decals going on:

More done. Gloss was on yesterday so decals went on first thing this morning:

Decals were excellent, no issues at all. Left to set for an hour before a top coat of gloss was added. Once that had set for 4 hours, I added the panel line wash:

40474548014_97c8ee8a36_b.jpg

Then removed after 30 minutes:

40291605195_07ff3e8e5c_b.jpg

Once that was sorted, I added all the pre-prepared sub assemblies - landing gear, Sniper pod, AN/ALQ-131, horizontal stabilisers, Master pitot tube, ejection seat, coaming and the Master static wicks:

Will give the model a coat of matt varnish before adding the ordnance.

More soon.

More done. Flat coat added then topped off with some weathering - patterns were based on numerous pictures of USAF F-16s that have been involved in combat over the past couple of years. Weathering was a mixture of Tamiya smoke, Tamiya weathering sets and dry brushing. Then the exhaust and ordnance was added.

Just need to finish off the canopy now.
