Wilks
Making progress on this next one. Finished filling and sanding, a touch of undercoat to confirm that was indeed the case and then masking and undercoat for the canopy and clear parts. There is a ton of nose weight in her and I am pleased to see that like the last one she won't be a tail sitter. All masked up and some black applied to simulate the inside of the canopy and other transparencies. So far so good. Time to add some color next weekend. Cheers, AGW..
k5054nz
I like it, great start Toney! I quite like how they've moulded the canopy.
Wilks
Progress continues in the paint shop. White on which is decanted Tamiya Fine Surface Primer (White) decanted into my airbrush. Works a treat, dries very quickly and his hards as nails. All masked up ready for some painted aluminum. Painted aluminum is on which is Tamiya's AS-12 rattle can decanted into my airbrush. Masks off and she looks the goods with no over sray. A few successive coats of Future and it is ready for decals. Likely be a 6 Squadron machine with the blue lightening bolt on the fin for this one. Wilks
As I've put the decals on particularly the dark blue ones it looks like it belongs to RAF Air Transport Command! The 6 Sqn Lightening flash on the fin is the wrong color and will need to be painted. I applied the decal to give me as close to accurate a shape as possible to mask the outline. I'll hit it with some Future before finding a suitable Gunze color to replicate it. The lightening bolt is from the Aussie Decal sheet. It had to be trimmed to fit by removing about 3mm off the bottom with a sharp knife prior to soaking in water.Surveying my other Canberra decals there are no lightning bolts that are all that accurate. Most are too fat and squashed. Also they don't seem to lean back far enough. The old Aussie Decals were the closest.I did read somewhere that Ronin Decals Australia are in the midst of producing a set which given how accurate they normally are should fit the bill better than those existing in our collections. Back to decaling...
Wilks
Lightning Bolt color issue resolved. It now looks like a 6Sqn ride rather than something from the RAF's Air Transport Command. Some masking and painting last night has done the trick. I darkened some Gunze 25 Sky Blue with some Dark Blue to approximate the color. Masking followed using some thin blue tape and some triangles from the Canopy Survival Kit (Well worth the investment.) The masks over the fin flash was done with suitably cut PostIt notes to cover the decal and Tamiya yellow tape to hold down the edges. I wouldn't recommend masking around and then painting over decal but I really didn't have another choice. My masking was pretty good save for two small areas that were addressed with a new flat brush and some of my darkened Gunze Sky Blue paint. Now on to the rest of the decals and finish line for this one. Cheers, Wilks.
Wilks
Decals done and sealing coats of Future applied and drying. Can't find any pictures of 6Sqn Canberras of this era with tip tanks. As much as I'd like to add them I'd really like a picture of one. Finish line in sight... Cheers,
Wilks
Dull coat added, masks off which give the model a huge lift, and wheels ready to go on tomorrow. Cheers, Edited February 25, 2018 by Wilks Additional detail
Meteor74
Sharp work on the paintwork Wilks. That's a nice looking scheme and you've done a great job on it. Looking really nice Gary
NealParkes
It is looking very good Wilks. What are your overall thought about the kit? I have one on my wish list but would ike your opinion? You haven’t really covered the build side of the kit so it would be appreciated if you could let us know how that went. Thanks and keep up the good work. Thanks and keep up the good work. Neal Many thanks Gary and Neal. Neal, I really like the kit and humbly recommend it to you. I covered the build side in a lot more detail on the T4 I finished earlier this year. There are no real vices to the build. Where you will spend a little time is on the join of the clear parts to the fuselage. You'll need to trim the pilot instrument panel for it to close. I've approached filling the join two different ways now and will revert to the first and fill with super glue going forward. Less prone to shrinking which makes for less effort. Be sure to cover the canopy with tape... Cheers, AGW..
Wilks
Managed to finish her this afternoon. I am rather pleased with the result and are very happy to add another Canberra to the cabinet. References for 6Sqn Canberras of this scheme and era were very difficult to find. I only ended up with two. All were very clean airframes so not a great deal of weathering added to this one. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4770/25613843157_f16b2df3e7_z.jpg[/img Cheers, AGW..
Rabbit Leader
Extremely impressive Antoney, two lovely looking Canberra’s in two very eye catching schemes. I’m now wondering how many more RAAF Canberra’s you have planned as there’s still the camo schemes and possibly a few others left to do? Cheers..
