bhouse
Superb work but I agree with JeroenS about the colour. This real-life recreation seems to capture the look rather well: Visit www.flickr.com/photos/41056391@N05/15250639442 and see what you think.
ian wallace
Well this is what’s it’s all about. I have taken the model out and yep it does have a lot of grey in the green so I have fished out another colour. I did have the chance to buy that van in the photo 😞 should have bought it 😢
Brundledonk
Great work Ian, roof looks lovely and smooth now ( that must have been an epic sanding session ) I built this kit as the anti Pesto van a while back and that one is a darker green, but the green you have used here looks about right to me for the Top Bun Van and is a very close match to the screen used model. ian wallace
Thanks Pete I have found another green it’s a bit better. More of an apple green I think the other guy is right this green is to grey.

Brundledonk
The actual prop was a bit lighter in reality but lighting did alter the final look on screen I agree the new green is a better match for how it looks on screen Ian 👍 Pete
ian wallace
Ok guys how’s this I think this will do if anything I can put a white filter over it to make it lighter in places Edited May 28, 2018 by ian wallace
James B
Looks spot on. Your lighting will be different to the studio lighting and I imagine there will have been post production editing as well. I think you've nailed the colour we expect it to be, and I think once it gets dirtied up a bit as per your reference photo, it will be indistinguishable. ian wallace
hey up lad! we have nearly finished one side. so at this point I am very please on what I have done, the green I have used in the end was Vallejo model air 71.095 pale green and I think its a cool match, it goes well with the off white very well. with all the shapways mods, this is turning out to be a very nice little model, and I was thinking of taking it to the nationals this year. I guess my next task is to find or make some decals for this van. once this is done I can start to put some rust and dirt etc all over the model. so please keep tuning in guys, I really do appreciate all you help and comments. so keep a good supply of cheese and crackers at hand and I will get some more done as soon as I can
ian wallace
Ok on with the front grill and the bumper. the front bumper I've just sanded brut fully to make it worn looking a quick coat of AK gray primer and then some Allclad and the same with the horse shoe surround I will be doing this with the rear bumper and the wing mirrors and lights also. with the front grill I have bought the new improved version see link below. https://www.shapeways.com/product/95GC2S2VZ/1-12-airfix-austin-a35-w-g-van-grille-upgrade?optionId=41077925 this is much better than the original and shows the Austin of England badge on there and everything. it has the correct number of slats also. I did think about sanding the edges of the slats but on my van they were very rough so, bu@@er it. I will tough it up a little more but it will need some rust and dirt etc so I'm not that Fust about it. the badge has come out ok, I've added a little black but its to small to add some red, I'm guessing I'm being a little picky? there is a little filing need doing to the sides, but nothing much, but again another great design by Patrick the shapways guy. ian wallace
Hi Guys while I'm waiting for me decals to be designed, I thought I would crack on with the lights etc. So here is the finished front I have finished the front grill, the slats look as if they should be sanded, but my vans slats were the same and it remined me every time I washed the bloody thing and it always cut me. any way with the head lights I put a little wash in the inside to make them look a little worn also. the bumper turned out ok in the end, will look better when I start to weather the complete model. and here is the rear, I cant remember if I have covered this but this is the Austin on England badge on the rear door its very hard to get into focus (sorry guys) but it does look the part. here is the link to the badge https://www.shapeways.com/product/F4CS2NTUV/1-12-airfix-austin-a35-anti-pesto-top-bun-kit-1?optionId=64660357 it come in a kit with some other goodies that I will cover later And here are the 3D number plates (they are so cool). https://www.shapeways.com/product/GHRBJ9MWF/1-12-airfix-austin-a35-w-g-van-licence-plate-2?optionId=64659175 these are sold separately and my advise is buy the better quality. this is my second set, the first set was the cheap finish and they were awful, and then I bought the smoothest detail set and they are just perfect. and on that note I think I will be re ordering the door handles to a better finish also. so I'm nearly there with the shell of the van, I have just the drivers side door to do, and then that's it. I'm waiting for the designer to finish the hinges and the sun visor so I think I will move on with finishing the inside. so up next I will cover dashboard, with new improved speedo new improved gear stick new peddles and floor mats Ow and almost forgot the mutt radio and the toaster 👍 Edited June 8, 2018 by ian wallace
ian wallace
Hi Guys ok so on with the dashboard I have cut out the middle so I can fit this little beauty in. here is the link https://www.shapeways.com/product/5ACR4MXZW/1-12-airfix-austin-a35-instrument-panel?optionId=64664813 all I have done is sprayed the whole thing in black primer and then painted the chrome bits and then cut the original decal to keep the numbers So this is how she fits, there are some small wholes if you want to add some fibre to light it up, im not that happy with the decal, I did buy some decal paper so I might try and print it a little bigger? or I could just leave it? ian wallace
ok some more little goodies for this weekend floor mats here is a link to the parts they come with the seat conversion https://www.shapeways.com/product/YWSJSFN2H/1-12-airfix-austin-a35-van-upgrade-kit-top-bun?optionId=64665654 just put in place for now,
ian wallace
Next up is the MUTT radio and the toaster. the link for the radio is https://www.shapeways.com/product/LQLB7K629/1-12-airfix-austin-a35-van-mutt-radio?optionId=64659653 the buttons do have MUTT on them but I cant get them to stand out, I have tried to paint the buttons white and then dry brush but I think the MUTT is to fine. I have painted some clear orange so if I wanted to I could put a length of fibre or an LED in there to light it up? I think I'm going to fall out with my camera as this radio looks better than shown in the photo. AHHHHHHHHHH. anyway moving on. The toaster the bit of toast is very small and I have told the designer this so hopefully if you order this you will get a bigger slice The link for this is https://www.shapeways.com/product/JHCHVDESU/1-12-airfix-austin-a35-van-toaster-w-toast-top-bu?optionId=64659610 So this sits under the radio. you have two options in the film at the start you see wallace and his dog, having a slice of toast, but later on at the very end, this changes to a record player, link as follows https://www.shapeways.com/product/75AW425J6/1-12-airfix-austin-a35-record-player-top-bun?optionId=64659534 https://www.shapeways.com/product/Y2EBPLLHE/1-12-airfix-austin-a35-model-records-top-bun?optionId=64659695 https://www.shapeways.com/product/49YESQXYY/1-12-airfix-austin-a35-record-cabinet-top-bun?optionId=64659488 so there you have it, two options, toast or record player.
