Neil.C
My next kit to have a go at is the Academy Mig 23S. The painting sheet enclosed is not very helpful as it is in black and white and rather blurry. Fuselage, wings etc are silver but other parts of the tail, nose cone etc are just marked dark grey - but is the dark grey matt, satin or gloss please? TIA. Giorgio N
The dark grey parts are all those that on the real aircraft are in dielectric materials, the radome and various antenna covers. This colour is matt and could vary, with some aircrafts showing quite a dark grey and others with a lighter grey. I'm not sure however if I'd paint the aircraft in silver... while some very early MiG-23s seem to have been in aluminum paint (or in clear aluminised lacquer over natural metal), most aircrafts in a single colour were in light grey. I'm pretty sure that Academy didn't bother too much in finding an accurate colour scheme for this kit Edited February 5, 2018 by Giorgio N

Hook
For the radome and dielectric panels on the vertical tail surfaces, FS36118 Gunship Gray is a good match for fresh exampes. Agreed about the unlikelihood of silver - allover light grey should do the trick. Some nice pics of very early grey MiG-23S/ML's: http://www.easternorbat.com/html/979th_regiment_mig-23s_eng.html http://www.easternorbat.com/html/979th_regiment_mig-23ml_eng.html Cheers, Andre

In one set of pics the dialelectics are white and in another dark grey/ black. All very helpful though, it seem most Mig 23's were pale grey. Shame I was looking forward to having a go at silver.
