Bf 109 E-7 Black 10

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I put my name on the list ages ago so here I am. I'd like to throw my hat into the ring with an Eduard Messerschmitt 109 E-7 black 10 III/JG77 based in Romania in 1941 built oob. As you'll see from the below pic the paint job is quite an interesting one so we'll see if my airbrushing skills are up to it. The marking coma from a Kagero Top Colours book.

I had a chance to cut some plastic over the weekend but no painting yet so updates to follow ASAP.

Thanks for looking and happy modelling.

Hi all

Progress report no. 1. - the cockpit

Side walls first. Everything has been primed and then painted painted with Vallejo model colour RLM 02. All boxes were picked out with black and any knobs and switches painted their appropriate colour. A water/kleer black brown wash was then applied. Everything was then given a coat of matt varnish.

The seat belts are super fabric and are included in the kit.

The rear decking and armour plate.

I decided to use the decal for the instrument panel. This still needs some more micro sol on it. Think I'll get an etched one next time but for what is likely to be a closed cockpit build it will be fine for now.

So now to stick it all together.

Thanks for looking.

Questions and constructive comments welcome as always.

Hi everyone

It's been ages since the last update with work, family holidays and general getting in the way of modelling as usual. First world problems...!

So here we go with a very small update.

The airframe is now together and the wheel wells and canopy and any other bits painted RLM 02 as appropriate. The fit of everything was really good except for the panels around the engine. I think that this kit as with Eduards early FW190 kits was basically designed to be built with the engine on show. The other reason for problems is probably because i sat down to do this part of the build at 10 o clock on a Friday night!

So thats it for now and let painting commence. Mottling with Vallejo paints may prove interesting!

Thanks for looking

Hi everyone

Time for another long overdue update. This time painting and decalling.

First up was a coat of Stynlrez primer. This was the first time that i'd used this stuff and i have to say i was impressed straight out of the bottle. Then on with a coat of RLM 65. All paints are Vallejo Model Air by the way.

Then RLM 02

Then RLM 71 and onto the yellow bits.

Now to the interesting bit, the squiggles. I wasn't sure about Vallejo for this and as you can see it is a bit 'splatty'. I like the model air paints by Vallejo even with the odd bit of lifting here and there but I'm not sure I'll use them to attempt mottling again. Still it could always be a case of a bad workman always blames his tools?

And then a Klear coat and on with the decals followed by another Klear coat.

And that's how it sits at the moment, ready for a wash.

Thanks for looking. Questions, comments and general micky taking are welcome as usual.

I think you've done a great job on a very tricky scheme James, mottled schemes always seem a bit disappointing until you get the transfers on and I think that might have skewed your view a little...

Cheers,

Ah, here you are James and I now see that your model is much more advanced than I had thought. Your paint work has nicely covered up the few small imperfections that you were alluding to in my E-4B thread. A very attractive build. Well done so far!

Just stumbled across this one good work. The paint work in the tub is great. What varnish do you use? Thanks

great work so far, looking forward to seeing this progress.

Thanks Valkyrie

The varnish is Vallejo model air flat varnish. Sprayed with plenty of flow improver as it’s a sod for blockages.
