DaveJL
Hello all, Here is a project that i've been planning for a while and quite a rare occurrence for me to be building 3 non-aircraft models one after the other! Based around Meng's 1/35 Pickup truck, the diorama will be based around a Tier 1 Special Missions Unit (Delta or Devgru) setting up a sniping/observation position in the Shahi-Kot valley, in early 2002. Kit: Extras: And some bits from this tub of assortments: Just need to find a suitable base. Looking forward to developing this one as i've had a long held interest in Special Operations and I think those in the early years of the War On Terror are fascinating. DaveJL
Made a brief, well, very brief, start on this - assembled the assorted firearms! The M240 is from the kit and will be mounted on the load bed, the M82 is also from the kit and will from the centre piece of the sniper/observation position. The Legend set i'll be using includes a .50 but it's not as detailed as the Meng offering. I'll also be throwing in a suppressed MP5, a MK11 for the spotter, an M4/203 and a couple of M4s. A couple of resin AT-4 launchers to add too: I've been looking at Live Resin's catalog and might add some items from them. More soon. Dave
SeanM
I like your plan and all nice bits you have lined up. The Meng pickups are nice but a bit basic. You'll probably want some sort of radio mounted on the dash board and an antenne on the roof. And lots of storage in the bed.... Looking forward to watching this come together
DaveJL
Thanks Sean. I have a ProArt radio and communication set that i'll pinch a radio from and think I'll order some Live Resin stuff, including a set of SatCom antennae.
DaveJL
Some more done. I changed the scope on the .50 rifle to the one included in the Legend set. Think it's a low light/thermal job, but not sure: Assorted equipment built and cleaned up: Mixture of Meng, Tamiya and some unknown resin. Not sure if the lot will fit in the load bed - some will be placed in the cab. here's how some of it fits in the former: Will also be adding a radio from this set: Not sure which one yet as one of the resin figures i'm adding to the scene has a radio pack. More soon. Dave
DaveJL
More done. The interior was built up: Chassis was built next, quite fiddly in places. All components together: Chassis sprayed black: Will paint up some details such as the exhaust and brake disks before adding the cab. Not much of it will be seen and will be heavily weathered here. Interior was primed then sprayed: Some details on the dash to be painted black, along with the low range gear selector etc. Once this is done i'll weather this part and begin adding some kit. More soon. Dave
DaveJL
More done. The interior was painted, weathered and filled with some kit: Note the radio set in the passenger side footwell, a lovely example from the ProArt set and the MP5 in the rear. Chassis was also finished off - a bit rough in places but i'm not bothered as very little will be seen under the weathering that's to go on: Some of the kit ready for the load bed: And the M4s/Mk11 ready to go: I painted theses flat black initially, then dry brushed some metallic on before adding the camouflage so often seen on Special Forces/ Tier 1 weapons. More soon. Dave
DaveJL
More done. The cab has been painted, windows fitted (a one piece affair that i wouldn't be the biggest fan of), windows masked off, grille, lights, wing mirrors fitted and a satcom/tacsat antennae (from the ProArt set) added to the roof, ready for gloss and weathering: Framing added to the load bed, then I popped in all the kit and added the M240B: A couple of things to add to this then it will be weathered. The .50 rifle was also finished: Again, I added a disruptive pattern to the weapon. More soon. Dave
DaveJL
Plenty of work done over the last few days. Cab and load bed (which was a bugger) added to the chassis, weathering added, wheels attached and a few details added. The truck itself is now done: I added a bit of copper wire from the base of the antennae to replicate the cable running inside the cab to the radio. I also added the second AT4 launcher to the framing just below the M240B. A few snaps of how it will look on the base: Just the 3 figures to add now. SeanM
Wow, you’re fairly flying through that. Looks great
DaveJL
Thanks Sean. The figures will slow me down a bit, not my strong point!
Richard E
Looks very smart, particularly impressed with the groundwork. Do you need to put a bungee round the AT4 on the rollbar so it stays in place though?
DaveJL
Thanks mate. The base was bought pre-made on ebay. As for the bungee, good idea, didn't think of that! I'll fashion one from some copper wire.
DaveJL
Figures built up: I had ordered some Live Resin heads, with beards, however the way the figures are positioned, they wouldn't work so just ended up using the Legend heads. I'll do some creative painting for the beards if I can. How they'll look on the base with the truck: Figures have been primed ready for painting. I'll be doing a mixture of civilian jackets and desert camouflage trousers, based on some reference material i've seen/read. More soon. DaveJL
Started work on the figures over the last few days. The spotter is done so far: Spotter is wearing some sort of head dress and both he and the sniper have hearing protection. All 3 figures will be wearing civilian style jackets, as seen in pictures i've looked at from the time period. Spotter has since been fitted to the base: Nearly there.
