Christer A
A small update today just to show that the project hasn't stalled, it's just so much life-things that gets in the way. The inner parts of the exhausts are now completed: As are the Aux bays. Should be ready to install at any time. Cockpit was painted Dark Gull Gray with Xtracrylix And then I just painted some other grey shades here and there Today I'll continue with detail painting, of which there are LOTS!
giemme
Very neat paint job, Christer The exhausts and aux bays look terrific Ciao
Christer A
Thanks Giemme! Today hasn't been as effective as I hoped, but detail painting was performed. Now everything is drying under a coat of Aqua Gloss, come tomorrow there will be a wash!
Christer A
Well, after the wash, everything got dirty! A strange concept, but it seems to work as intended Right, time to fit all breaky-off bits, before smacking the whole lot into the fuselage...
giemme
Terrific detail there, Christer The wash did work Ciao

Christer A
Time for some Phantom-love again. Those Hypersonic stabilizers had a quite thick pour inlet on the leading edge, but my new Dremel made short work of them. They look lovely when cleaned up, and with much more petite detail than Academy, not to mention more correct Someone more skilled/interested with photography could probably have brougt forth the difference much clearer but the difference is noticable in normal light. Moving on! The air intakes have been sanded, primed, rescribed and re-riveted once and starts to look allright now. Atleast in some places! One coat of primer and we'll se how it goes. The small inspection window at the rear has been installed and sanded to fit, now it waits for more polish and a cleacoat to restore clarity. Then I took a big leap of faith The nose underside together with nose gear bay and cockpit was squished in place. Here, I've just glued the plastic part and let the cockpit float around, the idea being to allow some play when installing all cockpit sidewalls etc before fixing it in place. A plan so crazy that it might just work? Or will it? Stay tuned! Edited April 24, 2018 by Christer A

Christer A
Thanks guys! 90% of the rivets you see are the original ones
Christer A
Almost a month since the last update? Darn, that Battletech game is a worse time sink than it should be... I can't really blame the PBJ-1J over in the B-25 GB either, even though it is a (welcome) distraction. But there has been some Phantom-shaped progress over the last few weeks I was able to slide in the side consoles in the cockpit. All it took was even more sanding to them, but in the end they got there and so did the cockpit. I've checked with the canopy and it still fits, so the fuselage isn't bulging out too much due to the Aires stuff. Whew! The nosecone was also installed, but here there are gaps and steps all over. Putty will solve that. Note to self for future reference: do not add the sensor pod until the nosecone is faired in! It will help sanding. Also note: Do not try to pry it off either, because you will break it. Dryfiting the wings shows a big gap on the starboard side. I think i will try to add some spreader bars from sprue here to push the walls out a bit. The underside is a bit worse off. The XMM intakes fouls up this join -> more sanding required before Tamiya Extra Thin locks everything down. Christer A
Intermission! We have a newly installed 3D printer at work, and we're encouraged to use it. Well... The Gatling part of Academys SUU-23A gunpod looks a little dull, so I decided make my own. Let's see how it prints...

Christer A
My first attempt didn't even reach the printer. We decided to get rid of the barrels and just focus on the outer part with all the holes in it. (I have no idea what it's called, flash suppressor? muzzle brake? vulcan napkin?)
