maudesman
Good evening all... Help is required concerning Lend/lease aircraft.... What P-40 kit is suit to the Russians. I Have looked but seem confused, as so many varients were aquired by the Rusians.... So what kit, in 1/48th, would best suit a russian bird? Thanks all Mark
Troy Smith
Hi Mark erm, it depends on what version you wish to build.... I think the only versions they didn't get were the Merlin engined versions (P-40 F and L), otherwise they got lots, my old Red Stars book says 2, 397..... They were suppplied with P-40B, C, E, K, M, N models, some ex-RAF, or from British contracts, so in Temperate Land Scheme (P-40 B and E) have a look here for schemes, click the links, it has the photos the profiles are based on. http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/lendlease/p-40/p-40.html These are the best VVS P-40 profiles I know of BTW, treat others with caution. Kits 1/48th, assuming you want accuracy. P-40B/C- Airfix the other P-40 B/C all have accuracy issues. P-40 E, M, N, Hasegawa are the best in scale, the K is harder to find. Haegawa do lots of boxings, this lists what in what https://modelingmadness.com/splfeat/kr/has48b.htm though AMT/Ertl kit, reboxed by Italeri of the E/K, and M/N are decent. There is also a P-40M/N by Mauve reboxed by Eduard, which is decent too, from what I read. Have a google for reviews. probably the best selection of decals is this one https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AD4860 Note several of the schemes are documented in Soviet warplanes link. This should give you the answers to your questions ? HTH T PS there are a few Soviet modifications, some were re-engined with Klimov engines, but only one known photo, and there were some 2 seat versions, trainers and a recon version, the recon one is the grey one in the link. http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/lendlease/p-40/tapani/p-40k-m-n/34twoseater.htm Edited January 27, 2018 by Troy Smith add detail,
