Airfix 1/72 F-86 Sabre (Italian)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've this kit finished for quite a while but I only just got round to photographing it. The kit was alright, filler was unfortunately required in the usual places such as the wing roots and where the bottom of the fuselage meets meets the lower wing section. Painted in my usual way using Vallejo Model Air paints followed by a panel wash with some chalk pastel gun smoke exhaust stains. Constructive criticism is very much welcome :D (I know the front wheel is wonky, I'll need to fix that. Also I broke the pitot tube and the antenna so I'm trying to find an adequate replacement)

Hello there!

forget about a wonky wheel or a missing pitot, this Sabre if downright smashing! Great paint job, and a beautiful scheme. The Italians do know how to make things look great, from a Maseratti to a pannetone... and somewhere in between we find a Sabre.

This is the same scheme I am going to finish my kit with.

Well done

JR

Funny thing is, those sabres had a British paint job if I'm not mistaken.

But then, of course, those Italian roundels do look a lot more sunny...   ;-)

Thats because they were ex RAF. Thye got replaced by the Hunter as the Sabres were really a stand in while the Hunter got sorted out.

You are right, the Italian Sabres were in fact Canadair CL.13A ex RAF with British camouflage and black coloured cockpit.

Ciao.
