Developed by artist Norman Wilkinson for the Admiralty, and adopted by the US Navy. The British had a small factorybuilding models and testing dazzle schemes as illustrated in the article - There's a large cabinet of surviving ship models from this project in the IWM Lambeth Cafe, there's photo's of quite a few of them on the IWM website as well.

A lot of the models were generic ship types, but quite a few are named. Details by our standards are quite crude (but undoubtedly well detailed for the purpose they were required for), however the patterns and colours are a great resource for the designs of these schemes. I'd guess that the patterns as they appeared on the actual ships would follow these models as close as practically possible.

Note most of these schemes were different port side to starboard.
