rhamilton007
Does anyone have the details of the Hawker Tempest V in which Eric Brown bale out of? I was after the serial and any other marking it might have carried. Given the aircraft was with RAE I would assume it was void of any squadron or unit marking. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated Ryan Hamilton
gingerbob
Chris Thomas does, naturally! In the Osprey "Tempest Squadrons..." it is identified as JN735 (assuming that he only bailed out of one Tempest). JFoX with 3 Squadron, who "loaned" the aircraft to RAE to replace another that was having engine problems. bob
ben_m
Photo here: http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/tempest/tempest-V.html (but stated to be at Langley, so likely taken as it came off the production line, before markings applied)

I also illustrated JN735 JF-X with a profile in the same publication. It was based on an IWM photo of 'Lefty' Whitman climbing out of the aircraft and a clip of film showing Tempests taking off from Newchurch.
