Graham77
Finally got to make a start on this one. It’s going to be a sub assembly overload before it all comes together at the end. First up the parts. The first assemblies going together, axles, and transmissions " Where it currently stands, frames ready for paint, bodywork ready for colour and then time to start putting it all together! There is an awful lot of clean up on all the tubular chassis but I’m really enjoying this break from normal cars or planes! Cheers for looking Graham
Black Knight
How are you getting on with this? We're not far off the half-way point in the GB
Graham77
Leaped ahead, more to follow later but do need to get a move on!
Graham77
Lots of progress but little posting, here is a quick snapshot. First up the dry fit of the main space frame to which everything else attaches. Next up the bodywork, it comes in 3 sections, cab, flatbed and the rear panel for the cab and via a stroke of plastic wizardry it all fits in and around the space frame (more of this latter). I know the paint ran, but not to worry the decals cover it up and also provide most of the details for the cab front grill and lights. Unfortunately they are not the best and disintegrate easily as can be seen on the front of the cab. Some rescue work is required here and again stay tuned to see how that goes! Well for the time being that’s it. Next up is the detailing of the trailer bed and the last of the decals on the front cab, whilst continuing to put the engine and drivetrain together. more soon I promise! CliffB
I can see now why cleaning up all the chassis tubes would have been a bit of a mission! Well worth the effort though Cliff
Graham77
Dry fitting the chassis together with the drivers seat, fuel tank and battery and the engine makes its first appearance. cheers for now Graham
Graham77
More progress and more decal problems🤦♂️ Firstly, I am really enjoying everything except the bodywork. The frame looks like it’s coming together nicely and hopefully the drivers compartment should be in tonight with hopefully the engine and rest of the frame to follow shortly. After that it’s just the transmission and drive shafts, along with enormous suspension to complete the lower section. I even drilled some holes and replaced some moulder details with some wire. On to the bodywork and as you can see the bonnet decal has silvered quite badly. It had two coats of varnish, a polish and micro set and sol, I think I am going to have to gently pinprick it lots and re apply micro sol to try and solve slivering...any other top tips? Finally just the truck bed to spray the corner of and decal the sides before that is complete. The end is in sight! thanks for looking Graham
Graham77
Drivers compartment, engine and the rear suspension are now in. Next up is the radiator...maybe some more pipes and the rest of the rear suspension and axle! Nearly got the chassis finished and the bodywork isn’t far off. Then onto the wheels and she’s ready to go crush the rest of the cars on the shelf! Hopefully I’ll have some time tonight for the last spraying then early next week off to the gallery with her. Thanks for looking Graham
Black Knight
You're on that final straight, right out of the last chicane. Only a heap of Trabants to climb over to reach the finish
Graham77
Well these will help with the climbing, here are the wheels Yep they are 1cm squares, I’ll try and get a pic next to a standard 1/24 wheel for some perspective on this beasts size. And a quick dry fit of cab and chassis before some touch up painting and the last additions and decals Another good couple of nights and we’ll be there. yehaaaar for now Graham
Hockeyboy76
Looking good, looks like you sorted the bonnet decal too.
Graham77
Sadly not, it’s just the angle the pic is taken from. Hopefully with some more pin pricks and decal sol it will be resolved by the finish.
