Did anyone else spot the report that earlier today the emergency broadcast system in Hawaii broadcast the warning for incoming missiles & people should take shelter & many, many did. Some sent out those "last" messages to friends & loved ones, it apparently lasted for about 30 minutes before it was cancelled.

Now that's a reason to go down to the pub!

Know nothing about it. Reminds though about something I read recently. A former Soviet officer died but his claim to fame was that he was in charge when there was a false warning of an American nuclear attack. He thought; 'No way' and prevented a nuclear war.

Scary thought that only common sense stopped disaster.

Can you imagine some of the sheepish conversations after the all clear as people blurt out the things the things they've always wanted to say in case they never get a chance again? Minor baby boom in Hawaii mid September depending on how people decided to spend their last moments?

The worrying thing about this is the fact that in the messages to people's phones etc., it said "This is not a drill". So what happens if next time it's for real. How are they going to convince people?

My first reaction to this was to have a good chuckle. However, as Bullbasket said, this was an official emergency alert from a supposedly reliable source, saying "This is not a drill".

Given the ‘goings on’ in that part of the world at the mo, I’d be absolutely cacking myself if I’d received a text like that!

“Able Archer 83 was one of the times when the world has come closest to nuclear war since the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.”

And some more cheerful reading to brighten up your Sunday morning.:D

Yes, read that, watch 'Threads', then go down to the pub.  You will require copious amounts of alcohol.

Interesting interviews on various news channels today.

Seems that the operator pressed a key and got the 'are you sure you want to do that' message and pressed yes!

If nothing else it proved that there are glitches in their system as not all phone companies got the texts and it is reported that some sirens went off when they shouldn't have.

Well, I guess if it was instant sunshine on its way in, there would be few people around to debate the matter afterwards (and sue the company involved for 'Emotional Distress').
