Recommended Posts

So, in recognition of the announcement today that Airfix are releasing an all new Victor K2 tanker, I thought I would share my latest build project, The Matchbox/Revel Victor K2! :D:D:oops::swear:.

So here's the box, along with the Flightpath set:

Works underway, the fuselage has been re-scribed:

And the wings have been chopped up to accommodate Flightpath's resin, one piece casting:

The tail assembly has been re-scribed and the Flighpath white metal parts added, just need fairing in:

I am now going to have a lie down, and a bit of a cry :crying:

Thanks for looking,

Angelo.

Wonderful! I love Victors, my all-time favourite.

Great news about a new Airfix one, when is it available?

I've heard it's due in September, according to Airfix's website at least. Great start btw!

Quick update.

The kit's exhaust's are a bit rough, so after gluing the wing halves together, I ground them out replaced them with brass tube.

Once the exhausts were done, I could finish engraving the panel lines, attach the out wing, and replace the stiffening strips with thin plastic card.

I have also taken delivery of the excellent White Ensign etched cockpit set! :)

Be back soon :)

Now two WIP Victors on the go....and if I understand you correctly, a new-tool from Airfix??!

Looking forward to seeing this develop - looking good so far. Beyond my meagre skills :dunce:    but I'll watch and learn....

Got to ask - will it be pink????

I'm afraid not.

I have a soft spot for the old camouflage colours.

Fret ye not, this still builds into a fine model and you have made a great start.

Thanks Martin!  :)

Some more progress:

After engraving the panel lines, I refined the shape of the intake on the wing fuel tank.

And the tanks have been fitted to the wings, and just need a bit of filling and sanding to get a seamless fit:

The wing refuelling pods have been assembled and engraved:

I also opened up the intakes on the nose, and deepened them, as they were too shallow:

I've just about finished the engraving of the panel lights, so now I may be able to start on the cockpit! :)

Thanks for looking :)

Angelo.

Thanks for all the comments:D

I've put the airframe aside for a moment so I can work on the cockpit.

I am using the White Ensign etched set, along with a couple of resin ejector seats from PJ Productions.

The White Ensign set has clear acetate instrument dials which are inserted behind the etched panels.

This is what I have done so far: (I forgot just how small 72nd scale is!)

Many thanks for all the comments and compliments, greatly appreciated :)

Have managed to get quite a bit done since my last update.

The fuselage has been closed up:

I have also attached the wings.

To give a stronger join, to take the weight of the resin intakes, I drilled a couple of holes into the resin and inserted some sprue off cuts:

IMG_1710.jpg

Corresponding holes were drilled into the fuselage to accept the sprue:

IMG_1714.jpg

This gave a stronger join that the kit provided:

IMG_1716.jpg

A fair amount of filling and sanding was required to make the join smooth:

IMG_1717.jpg

I also replaced the kit's nose probe with the one provided in the Flighpath set, which is cast in white metal:

That's all for now.

Thanks for looking.

The next item I wanted to sort out was the canopy.

The kit part is poor.

Thick, not very clear, a poor fit with ill defined frames.

Flightpath to the rescue!

The provide a beautifully detailed etched frame.

I added the refuelling probe to it, after shaping the frame to match the fuselage's contours.

I also replaced the actual refuelling probe with a turned aluminium one.

IMG_1731.jpg

For the transparency, I used a piece of clear acetate that came with a set of Airways cockpit decals.

As masking the individual clear panels would be a night mare, I painted the frame first.

IMG_1733.jpg

Once super glued into place, the acetate was trimmed back, and the frame was glued in place.

IMG_1735.jpg

As the acetate is very thin & clear, you can get a good view of the interior.

Next stage is finishing off the details on the fuselage, and then it will be time for paint!

All the best,

Angelo  :)
