The bit below the xorst manifold is the injection pump & an oily steel colour would be quite appropriate in my experience of old Brit trucks, AECs included, years ago.

engine in... bit fiddly (seems to be the word for this build but am enjoying it)... needs a slight clean up. Wheels done plus started a few other sub assemblies.... next stop is the rest of the suspension and then exhaust system.....

Great job Rob, great to see a somewhat unusual subjectbuilt so well. It looks like a very nice kit too, what are your thoughts so far on fit? Do you expect much touch-up when assembling the subassemblies?

cheers Arnaud. Fit isnt too bad but

1) some of the parts are very thin/fragile

2) some of the parts (eg the mudguards/side box/mudguards) dont have any positive fixing

3) some of the parts are fiddly

I am hoping not too much to touch up BUT I need to do the turret build and attach to the upper hull BEFORE fitting the upper hull to the main body.... Will test the upper hull of course before then....

This is an interesting  subject.  Liking your interior work very much.  Have you tried (for engine, chassis) the ammo mig "engine fuel and oil" products.  They are very realistic.

thanks... and no I havent. Mind I have 2 further works coming up - transporter and wrecker that would benefit... may have to google it and add to my birthday list ;-)

These are the products, with the amount I use they should last a lifetime ! The fresh engine oil I used neat on the engine with a very fine brush round the filler cap, some people even dilute it with Thinners.

They are all available separately. The "Scratches effects" product is an alternative for the hairspray technique.

boy the turret is cramped in this thing... I have a bad feeling that when I come to button this up its not going to fit - the basket has to be attached to the upper hull & turret before the upper hull is fitted..... NOTE knife blade is in to try to align the upper parts of the turret sides.....

Nicely done, like it a lot :thumbsup2:

thanks Clive... slow fiddly work at the moment... not sure the best way to paint the upper sub-assemblies. really I need to leave the upper glacis off until its all painted then put it all together last... fit isnt too bad so think thats going to be the way. Doing some of the side "furniture" and may look to add a scratch fuel can holder on one of the rear mud guards (box art shows a nice addition)

Great progress Rob. Going together very nicely. It's good there are so many hatches to show off the internal details.

Kind regards,

Stix
