DaveJL
Hello all, Here is my entry for this Group Build - Tamiya's 1/35 M4 'Early Production.' Will be marked as a vehicle from the US Army in Normandy 1944, though the kit decals do not specify which unit. Kit: Extras: I know this set states it is for a Firefly, but most of it will fit onto the regular vehicle. To spice things up and to make the diorama I have planned, i'll be adding these: The plan is for the Sherman to come across an advance party of the 2nd SAS Regiment, who are returning from 'behind the lines' to report on Panzer movements and strengths. I'll be building the jeep and figures as part of this thread. Dave
Ozzy
Looking forward to seeing this one come together Dave, I'm thinking of doing a jeep in the MTO GB so will be interested to see how it goes together.
Sgt.Squarehead
Had a quick check and I can't find a unit ID for that Sherman.....TBH I reckon the few profiles I found were probably based on the kit.
DaveJL
Thanks chaps. The tank could be from the 70th Tank Battalion, but that's just a guess!
DaveJL
Finally made a start on this a couple of days ago. A dream to build. 'Bogies' first: Lower hull and all running gear: Upper hull: With additional armour: Turret: [/url] I'll be leaving off the side skirts on my kit. Amazingly, that's the majority of the assembly completed. I'm going to paint and weather in sections. On that note, what is the best colour for the tracks and the interior of the turret? More soon. fatfingers
Aye up Dave. Nice going. The turret interior should be white but the underside of the hatches need to be in olive drab. As for the tracks, black or very dark grey for the pads (both sides) I usually paint the guide teeth a dark browny rust colour. Check out the build by stevej60. He's making the same kit Regards. Sgt.Squarehead
Great work, that really does look a treat, I've only ever built one Tamiya AFV kit (or indeed 1/35 kit) but it was a joy to assemble. @fatfingers Has given you all the info you need, I can't add anything except that I'm looking forward to seeing it in technicolour.

DaveJL
Good bit of progress. The hull was painted, glossed with tools and decals added: Lower hull and running gear was all painted, with decals added: Both were then given a wash: Tracks added, with dry brushing around the return rollers, bogies and wheels to bring up some of the detail: More staining/weathering etc will be added later on. I then added the lower and upper parts before adding the majority of the kit. Each item was painted and weathered individually before being added: Again, more weathering etc to be added toward the end. Quite happy with how it looks so far. A couple of hours was also spent on the SAS jeep: Just a few more bits to add to that then it will be ready for paint. Some of the kit that will be going on/in the jeep: Next up will to be finish the jeep, along with the turret of the Sherman. More soon. DaveJL
More done. Added some rope to 'tie down' the kit on the rear of the hull: Turret was given a coat of gloss, decals then a wash: As that was drying, I finished the building on the jeep: Most of the kit has been finished, ready to go. Note the Panzerfaust which has been 'captured': Back to the Sherman. Added the .50cal to the turret, along with some bags etc: Then added the turret to the hull: That's the assembly pretty much done. Needs a flat coat, then i'll add some weathering, dry brush some hard edges and add some oil stains etc. Only things to attach are the commander figure (this will be left to the end along with the 2x SAS figures) and an antenna. More soon. Dave
DaveJL
More done. Added some weathering and dry brushing to the Sherman. Hard to make out in the pictures, but I didn't want to go overboard: Just need to add the commander figure to the tank. More soon. Dave

DaveJL
Jeep is nearly done. Everything added, including a flat coat, now needs some weathering: Hard to make out but there is an MP40 tucked in beside the passenger seat and an M1 Carbine in between the gear stick/transmission tunnel and the drivers seat. And how it will sit with the Sherman: Just the figures to add now. More soon. Dave 2

My armour building skills aren't near many on this site, so I tend to try OOB for the most part!
