thepureness
Good luck with this, really standing out I sure some might agree with me, but in my opinion this is the best plastic kit ever produced and your doing very well with it
Marlin
Thanks a lot. I do agree, it's one of the best kits I've built so far. I like it so much I'm going to buy the BM version later on. I'm doing this one as a Soviet "sans suffix" and I'll do the BM version as a Russian Navy one. That way I'll get the maximum difference between them. /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. I'm having soo much fun watching the Olympics that I havn't been building that much. The competions start so early in the mornings/nights that I can't start building before the family wakes up. So I spend the first hours watching telly with some coffee in the shine of my own personal Olympic Flame.036 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And this monday my youngest, Axel, celebrated is 14th birthday.037 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr He was rather pleased by this present. He plans to be an astronomer when he grows up, and he knows just about everything about NASA's spaceflights,038 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Four and half an hour later it looked like this. But I have been building some, I've completed the exhaust on the Mighy MiG.039 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr040 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr041 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I'm currently working on the ordnance, but that will have to wait for the next update. Marlin
Hi, Because the early start of the Olympic competition I'm not able to start my building right after breakfast (late night snack?) So I've been trawling the net after some pictures of the missiles on my MiG-31. And I have to admit that I think I've done it this time. So I've been detail painting my R-40's the last couple of days. And I think this is the best detail painting I've done so far. And considering that the Mighty Mig is just another "boring" grey jet I think you have to find some colours where you can. This is my result. I think I used 12 different colours on them.042 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr043 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr044 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr045 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I opened up the rocket exhausts and painted them as well.046 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Now I have to repeat the procedure on the R-33's. 047 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But the Olympics, and my vaccation contiunes next week as well. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi, I've finished the R-33's, and I'm as pleased with them as I'm with the R-40's.048 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr049 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr050 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr051 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr052 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And with the ordnance ready, it's time to start with the decals. I'm going to use Begemonts sheet(s) for early MiG-31's And I couldn't resist "RED 27" when I saw the Orca.025 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr026 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi, I've done some few decals now.053 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr054 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The Orca is in place. 055 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr056 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And as usual with Soviet/Russian aircraft the whole service manual is stenciled around the aircraft. I guess that there are something around 400-500 stencils to do. And since they're not grouped I have to search for each and everyone around the four large sheets in this set. But when I do find the right one, it's one less to look for. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi, The Olympics, and my vaccation has come to an end. 2 years and 147 days to the next time. I've decaled the MiG on the sides and the top. I'll guess that there are something like 300 stencils on it by now.057 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr058 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr059 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr060 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr061 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr062 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I really like Begemonts decals. This is my first build with them, but it will not be the last. I've got the underside, pylons and ordnance left to do. And since I'm back at work now that'll take some evenings to do. To be continued...... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. I've now been a week in the stencil shop. Teadious task, but oh soo beautiful when it's done. The underside is done now.063 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr064 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr065 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr066 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr067 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr068 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I haven't counted them, but on the flaps, stabilators and wheelcovers that I've left to do there are about 50 decals. Then I have the pylons and the ordnance with 100+ decals left to do. So I'll guess I'll remain in the stencil shop a few evenings more. To be continued...... /Bosse

Marlin
Thanks Matteo44. I havn't counted them all, but totally it'll be around 500+ stencils when it's done. Teadious work, but worth the effort. /Bosse

Marlin
Hi, I'm finally done with the stencils. The missiles have got their fair share of stencils, and it's almost time for the final stretch.069 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr070 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But first I've got to build and paint the seats.071 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'm not so fond of PE belts, so I guess that is why I always leave them until the end of a build. Marlin
Hi I've been too busy at work so I havn't been able to build as much as I'd like. But now I'm atleast done with the PE seatbelts.072 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr073 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Hopefully I'll have some more build time after easter. Marlin
Hi. Please don't think that I've stopped building my MiG-31. I've been doing some small details almost every day, but somehow I've not taken any pictures. But now I've some small progress to show. The wheels and landinggears are almost ready to go on.074 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr076 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 075 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr A dirty main landinggear, perhaps a bit too much. 077 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The ejections seats are done. url=https://flic.kr/p/24AcGXn]078 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I did lay a wash on the wheels as well. 079 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr080 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I'm about to glue all the cockpit parts in place. So I guess this one is in the final stage now and I'll have it done in a week, or five. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. Yesterday evening I managed to get the cockpit in place.081 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr082 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr083 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr084 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr085 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I have to admit that I'm rahter pleased with the result. Marlin
Hi. Yesterday evening I found the time to glue the main landing gears in place.086 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr087 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr088 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr089 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr090 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr091 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've used AMK's own metal parts I bought separately for this kit. They went on without any problems, but it took some time to scrape of wash, varnish and paint from the glue surfaces. The wheels will come on during next week, for we're spending this weekend in the cottage. And tomorrow I think I'll take out the BBQ, I have plans for some mustard marinated chicken breast with some grilled asparagus. Marlin
Hi. Here comes a report from my cottage and the arrival of spring to my part of the world.092 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The "blåsippor" (Hepatica Nobilis) has arrived094 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And the snow has almost melted away from the lawn.097 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr My youngest, Axel, said I clear the patio so we can use it today.098 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr About 10 centimeters of ice with some snow on top was what he cleared of the patio. 093 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The spring sun warmed up the patio to about +25C and we celebrated the arrival of Spring with some Italian bubbly. 095 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr We took out the BBQ and put some chicken breast on it. 096 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Dinner was finished of with a bit of the traditional blue cheese. After a fantastic weekend in the cottage we went home again, and I've gotten a rather ugly cough. So I stayed home from work the first days of this week and built on my MiG-31 instead. Intake ramps/door adn IR probe are now in place.100 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The wheel covers as well.099 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr101 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr102 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr After that I glued the R-33's in place.103 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr104 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And after some sanding and fiddling I got the airbrakes in place as well.105 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr106 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And a few days back I celebrated my birthday and I got myself a copy of Juri Gagarins wristwatch from the Mig-15/Vostok era.107 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr A most suitable wristwatch to wear when building Soviet/Russian aircrafts. Marlin
Hi, Just a quick update before the weekend. Yesterday I glued Eduards resin wheels in place.108 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr109 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr110 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I had no problems what so ever with them I just had to drill out the mounting holes a bit. So now my MiG will rest until sundayu as I go to the cottage for the weekend. To be continued...... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. Some small parts have been added to my MiG. The mud guard is in place.111 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And the same with the flaps.112 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr113 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've also painted the clear parts (no pics), and my plan for this evening is to get the "germetika" decals in place. AMK wants you to decal both the inside, and the outside. We'll see how it works later.. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. To decal the inside of the clear parts was one of the worst things I've ever done. So fiddly and it took ages. But now there in place.115 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr116 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr117 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr118 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Next time I've to do some Germetika seals I want a suitable paint for the work. I also think it will look more genuine. At least you don't have to worry about crooked lines. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. I've got the outside of the canopies done yesterday.119 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr120 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr It was a lot easier to get them in place on the outside, but I think handpainted seal would have looked better. Marlin
Hi, One more little update. Yesterday I glued the mighty R-40's in place.121 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr122 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr123 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Rather massive I think. Tonight I'm watching Sweden Hockey Games on tv, so I don't think I'll have something more to show before the weekend. But I think I'll have this one in the cabinet by next week. Marlin
Hi, Yesterday evening was hockeynight as I said, but a hockey game contains two pauses between the periods. And that was enough time for me to get the stabilators in place.124 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr125 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr126 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And with that it's almost fininshed. I got the canopies, some small antennas, and, of course, the nose cone with it's pitot tube. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. I'm almost done with my MiG now. The nose gear door is in place.132 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Yesterday I glued the lift arm for the canopies in place. But to get them in place I first had to remove the seats.133 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr134 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr When the arms were in place I glued the seats back in. To simulate the mirror for the back seat I glued a pice of aluminum tape to it.135 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And glued the cross beams in place. url=https://flic.kr/p/H2pLet]136 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And this is how far I got yesterday. Not much left to do now, so hopefully I might have this one done by tomorrow. To be continued..... /Bosse
