1/72 Italeri M4A1 Sherman

Here is my first entry for this GB. Build thread is here.

Built OOB, she is finished in Tamiya Olive drab, and the only identification Italeri give is "US Army, Normandy campaign 1944"

The Mad Nurse's 2nd entry for this GB is:-

Mirage Hobby's 1/72 M3A1 Lee

Again built OOB, and build thread is here.

She's finished in Vallejo Olive Drab, over an undercoat of Xtracolor Faded olive drab. Interesting to see that it's much browner than the Tamiya OD on the Sherman.

Done in the markings of a tank of the US Army's Armored Force School & Replacement Center, Fort Knox, 1942.

A kit with a "short-run"feel to it, with a little PE fret, of which I only used a little.

And with my other entry for this GB,

Well, that's it from me for this GB, all that remains is to thank our GB Co-ordinator Enzo Matrix for the great job he's doing, our host Sgt. Squarehead, and his co-hosts Ozzy and Threadbear for their work on this GB,

and thanks to all the participants who have made this such a successful GB.

I've enjoyed myself among the treadheads, and I'll never call them targets again!

M4A1, Operation Husky, 1943

Tamiya 1/48, with combination Tamiya/scratchbuilt stowage, scratchbuilt wading trunk and lower hull, Tracks by Gaso-line of Paris. Paint is a mix of Tamiya, Humbrol and Citadel, The unit markings are the kit ones, cut up and re-purposed. It should IIRC be 2nd Armoured, but the kit decals don't contain any 2's. Weathering has been kept intentionally light, until I build a base for it, when I will weather both together to maintain consistency. M2HB .50cal MG is kit receiver and mount, with barrel and grips from RB Models.

M4A1 Sherman - “Goldie”

3rd Battalion, 66th Armoured Regiment, 2nd Armoured Regiment

Normandy 1944

Kit: 1/35 Eduard/Tasca

Paints: Humbrol, Revell, Citadel and Railmatch Acrylics all applied by brush

Extras: Tank figures set from Dragon , stowage items from AFV CLUB, Tamiya and Dragon, plus Towing Cable wire kindly supplied by @modelling minion

Base: MDF, filler, Woodlands Scenics mixed turf and various tufts from Army Painter. The fencing was made from wooden coffee stirrers and the signs are from Matho Models. The puddles were made from layers of Humbrol Enamel Gloss Varnish.

WIP: Here

RFI: Here

Vignette photos: Here

Edit: The idea behind the scene: One of the things that bugged me while I was making this project was that the tank commander figure seemed to be smiling - it just didn't seem to fit with the idea I originally had. So I tried to think of things that might have made him smile on the way to battle over the fields near Carentan. I have made scenes before where I have used road signs to indicate the location and then it dawned on me I could make the scene as if one of the crew had been sent to check out what the road sign on the other side of the fence said - but, rather than reading it and reporting back, he's broken it off and is carrying it back. In my head the crew member next to the Sherman is saying "He said report back...not bring it back!!...."

M4A1 SHERMAN 1/35 ITALERI

Hi Pals, here is the Sherman for the occasion, finally finished, not exactly as I thought at first, but IMHO, it's not bad at all ...:hmmm:

As I mentioned in the thread of the GB, I had problems with the choice of what the kit would look like, first, U.S. Army of choice of Italeri, then U.S. Winter Camo, and finally something with a British accent ... more or less with the resources that were available ...

What to say about the tracks, the ones that the kit brought, when they were already fixed and painted, ended up collapsing ... damn ...:rage:fortunately, I had the others from the same kit that I did about 1 century ago (I really did them in the last century ... lol :clif:), and interestingly they had better quality than the most recent ... "Twilight Zone ....".

If you have interest, you can see in the RFI section, a thread with all the photos of the finished kit (here I leave a link to see it), and another for the WIP section (although there is not much to see this time, sorry).

Not finished but presentable (I hope). 1/48 Sherman II from Tamiya kit, converted to M3 suspension, DV hull and to be fitted with sand shields and other bits. Here the tank is just off the boat in Egypt but not fully "desertised"...
