JackG
This one was tough to photograph due to the combination of dark finish and winter sun. Please forgive the stark shadows, the indirect lighting was too weak to shoot, so had to place the subject in direct sunlight. All comments welcomed... neil5208
Very nice, never seen a Spitfire in dark blue before, what's the origins please?
JackG
Thank you Polo and Neil. According to the Sword kit: BP885, flown by Flt. Lt. Adrian Warburton of No.69 Squadron, based in Malta, 1942, finished overall in Royal Blue. If you google the pilot and Spitfire, you can find a photo of this particular bird. I've also found images of some other PR Spitfires in similar dark finish - but doesn't necessarily mean it was royal blue. Hopefully others more knowledgeable can explain it further ... regards, Jack
Corsairfoxfouruncle
I really like this scheme. Was it strictly a one off ? Or did other Reconnaissance Marks use this instead of the PRU Blue ?
ArmouredSprue
Very nice! I especially liked the overall weathering. Good job mate!

AdrianMF
Splendid! Had me fooled with the first picture. I loved the weathering too, and it's nice to see a pilot. Regards, Adrian
JackG
Thank you Corsairfoxfouruncle, ArmouredSprue, Stew, Steve, Justin, and Adrian. 19 hours ago, Corsairfoxfouruncle said: I really like this scheme. I've only searched for images of the PR IV so don't have the answer, though it's origin is the Mediterranean theater. I did find a statement made that this shade found it's way to SE Asia. Interesting, Hataka paints (which is the Royal Blue I have used here) also state similarly: " HTK-A055 – Royal Blue – Overall colour of P.R. aircraft in North Africa and Far East incl. Spitfire PR Mk IV, but also Hurricane PR Mk II " regards, Jack
