Lord Riot
I've managed to acquire two Airfix Nimrods from eBay at reasonable cost, under £25 each! But, it seems I'm going to have to spend about the same on spray paint as it's almost impossible to find satin hemp acrylic spray and satin light aircraft grey acrylic spray. Firstly, does anybody know a decent online source for these that isn't either sold out or costing about £15 a can? Secondly, would BS 381C Light Stone 361 be an accurate substitute for the hemp? I'm going to do one as a grey/white MR.1 and one as a hemp/grey MR.2.
JosephLalor
Hemp's a light brown, Light Stone's a light yellow
bentwaters81tfw
Go to Halfords. Look at their aerosol Enamels range. Camoflage paint. Khaki is Hemp (It's matt finish,) and Racking Grey is LAG (gloss finish). Job done. If you saw my Nimrod on the Ipswich table at Telford, that's how it was done. There was another from a Formaplane kit on an ASW display. Done the same way.
iainpeden
That's an interesting tip because light aircraft grey and light gull gray are basically the same colour.
Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies
If it helps the British Standard code for Hemp was BS4800/10-B-21 Light Aircraft Grey is BS381C-627. It is indeed very similar to FS26440

canberra kid
I've used Racking Grey for light aircraft grey, and I will again, the only problem with it is it's a very light gray, for me it could do with being a touch darker, there is also a Rover Champagne beige which I think is a good Hemp. This first photo is the Racking Gray And the Rover Champagne beige John Edited December 18, 2017 by canberra kid
Lord Riot
These look excellent! I think the hemp on that T.17 would be the same as a Nimrod? The racking grey looks perfect for under Canberras and Hunters, etc ... but as you say it looks a touch light for the grey of a Nimrod MR.1, although it's possible that is made to look darker as it's under white. Thanks, it would be the same shade of Hemp, I'm on with a Nimrod too and I'll be useing the same colour again and I may try the racking grey with it too. Orion
Hello Riot, In answer to your question: Xtra Color range (Hannants) is also a excellent enamel paint to spray your nimrod. Most of their paints are satin. Regards and lots of succes with your Nimrod. Orion / The Netherlands.

Sorry, no, very safe non-compressed enamels in robust steel containers are hard/expensive enough to post without getting in to aerosols
