I went on Flickr, made an account, uploaded a photo of my parents' bog, and tried to link it here. Looks like Embed doesn't work, and BBCode does.  So use BBCode, and DON'T use Microsoft Edge, which has been proven by @Dads203 not to work.

Please moan at Flickr first and foremost, although why Embed worked in the past, I have no idea because it isn't BBCode (which stands for Bulletin Board Code), and is in fact HTML, which isn't allowed (and always hasn't been allowed) to be posted on the forum anyway.

This was posted from Chrome and gives the same results.  I don't have Edge because it's a piece'o'junk, and I don't have Safari because I'm not a user of Is.

I think I’ll have to find another host which is  mobile friendly. :badmood:

Seems a bit extreme... instead of copying & pasting the Embed code, just copy the BBCode. :)

Oh?  Yau sure?  I don't have the app (for obvious reasons), so I've got no way of looking.... unless I download it quickly now while I can still remember my username and password to Flickr. :hmmm:

A reply back from Invision:

Hello,

There is no way in which embed would work without the ability to embed HTML. You should simply be copying the URL from the address bar, and then pasting it into the editor. The rest of the process is automatically done by the system.

Kind Regards,
Marc Stridgen

To restate, we don't have the facility to post in HTML and never have done - far too much of a security risk for the injection of malicious code. :boom:

That's not a url that works automatically. Let's try the Insert Other Media button. Nope. That doesn't work.

Nah. The Flickr app doesn't paste a url that is readable by the forum. Seems the mobile Flickr app is a bit of a dead loss when it comes to forums. You need to make your feelings known to them. They need to add the option for a link that has .jpg or .png at the end in order to work with the largest modern forum software available. Seems a bit remiss of them really.

That's settled then.  The desktop (website) works to copy BBCode, while the mobile app doesn't have that facility.  Time to ask them to add it.  Get in touch with Flickr, make your feelings known, and also review it on the Appstore and Playstore, marking it down for not having BBCode in the share options, or at least the ability to link to an actual URL with .jpg or .png at the end.  That's the solution :)

I think you've jumped to a conclusion that's not quite right. Pasting the URL from Flickr ALWAYS WORKED IN THE PAST. It just stopped a couple of days ago. Now, whether Flickr did something to screw this up, or a Windows update (unlikely since iOS folks are complaining about the same thing), or something changed in the forum software, I have no clue. But it's a moot point since there is a method that works. Therefore, Flickr can indeed creating a URL that is readable by the forum.

My environment is Windows 10, Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. The following method works in all of them.

1. Click the download button from the picture display and select "View All Sizes":

2. You'll get a new screen. Right click on the photo and select "Copy Image Location".

3. Paste this into your Britmodeller post and the photo magically appears:

4. If you don't want to use the image at its original size, just right click on any of the available sizes listed and you'll get a resized picture displayed. Copy Link Location from that, paste into BM, and you've got a smaller image:

All of this is done with mouse clicks, no need to strip out any extraneous BBCode (which I always screw up).

My examples above were done in Windows 10 and Firefox. As has always been the case, the different browsers have different semantics. In Chrome, right click the image and select "Copy Image Address". In Edge, right click the image and select "Copy". I've tested all of these methods, and they seem to work each time. Even in Edge.    :)

Cheers,

Bill

Bill - my comment about not being able to create URLs readable by the forum relates to the mobile app's lack of functionality, not desktop use.  They're the ones that are having the most trouble, it seems.

Plus, some people have been saying that copying Embed code over used to work, and now doesn't.  I'm doubtful whether that has ever been the case, but as I've never used Flickr until today, I don't know for sure.  What I do know is that on the desktop, you can copy the BBcode over for a simple solution. :)
