Questions about RAF Night Fighter Escorts

Hullo,

I was wondering if anyone knew of some books that covered the RAF's effort to protect the night raids with escorting radar-equipped fighters. Is there much out there on the subject, and are there any decal options in 1/72 for such fighters?

Look for works on 100 Group, notable two by Martin Streetly: Confound and Destroy is a history and The Aircraft of 100 Group is more of a modeller's guide to the aircraft and their modifications.  I think that Martin Bowman also did one more recently, which may be more readily available, but I suspect that Martin Streetly's work may be superior.

Thanks, Graham! I didn't realize 100 Group was the home for night fighters as well as ECM aircraft.

It comes under the general headings of Bomber Support and Electronic Warfare, hence 100 Group.  The specific fighter escort missions as such were under 100 Group: I don't think that the same applies to intruder missions but that wasn't what you asked about.

"Instruments of Darkness" by Alfred Price is a good start, but I particularily recommend "The History of Air Intercept Radar & the British Nightfighter 1935-1959" by Ian White. Both are very interesting reads.

Cheers,

If you want a first hand  account I recommend this book;
