PK-104 Curtiss SB2C-1 Helldiver **Finished**

Romeo Alpha Yankee

I had originally intended to do good old PK-18, Grumman Hellcat which I started the other day, but partway into the build, I realized the replacement vac-form canopy in the kit was not correct for it. It looks like a Corsair one, so it was pushed aside for the Helldiver.

After seeing Tony's (@tonyot) build I thought I would also jazz up the cockpit a little. It won't be as funky as Tony's but I will hide some of the gaping gaps in there.

Pictures soon.

Oh and if anyone has an old spare canopy to fit the Matchbox Hellcat I will happily take it off your hands

Great to see you onboard Ray and look forward to seeing the Helldiver pics as well.

Now I just might be able to help you with a vac Hellcat canopy. I’m pretty sure it’s not intended for the Matchbox kit, however may just work.

I’ll PM you later once I unravel that ever useful spares box.

Cheers.. Dave.

Glad to be joining Steve,

Have so many of Matchbox kits littered in the stash, here are a few that on the bench at the moment

The SBC-4 Helldiver kit has been on the go for a while, it was missing canopy piece which I tracked down on another forum, I will be continuing it in the KUTA IX GB.

The Hellcat (which is a Revell rebox) was started for this GB earlier in the week, though no thread had been started as I realised the vac-form canopy in the kit was the wrong one, hopefully, Dave (@Rabbit Leader) will have one in his spares and I will carry on with it.

So on with this build

I took a leaf out of @tonyot's book and decided to add a little detail in the cockpit.

The wing is not attached yet, just assembled and test fitted.

Masking finished this morning, see my other Helldiver thread over in the KUTA GB about how much I love masking all those little canopy panels

30 degrees C this arvo so the paintwork is drying quickly

Looking very sharp Ray, I especially like the way you've mastered the antenna - I'm racking my brain on how you would achieve the center upright portion just by using ezi-line?

Cheers.. Dave

Thanks, Dave.

Yes, the upright part is another length of Ezi line, I glue the base first with a spot of super glue, touch it with accelerant and then stretch it slightly and do the same at the other end. Then just trim.

I managed to knock it off removing the masking so had to replace it with another length.

And finished

Looks great Ray,......love the paintwork.

Could I just point out that when the wings were folded the tips almost touched above the fuselage on the real aircraft.

All the best,

               Tony

Tony, I am afraid the engineering of the kit only allow the wings to go just past the vertical. I can live with it :D
