HAVE REVELL GONE BONKERS OVER A MODEL PRICE

TIGER HOBBIESLIMITED

Recommended Posts

Tiger Hobbies recently received the new Revell Master Series 1/144 Millennium Falcon.  The Model is just over 7 inch long with only 93 parts (more in a modern 1/72 Airfix fighter), nothing special in the box such as Resin and Etch parts.  Really for this £119.99 retail.  The model is made in Japan and I think the ex Fine Mold, but seriously £119.99 for no more plastic than a £14.99 kit.

Don't get me wrong some Star Wars Geek will love it, but if this is purchased by some Mum and Dad as a treat for little Johnny the will gowhen it arrives.

The box is less than 14 inch long and the whole package weighs 400 grams, some one is taking the Piddle.

Tiger Hobbies have placed the following warning on our site.

WORD OF WARNING TO POTENTIAL GENERAL BUYERS.

THIS IS NOT A LARGE MODEL IN FACT THE COMPLETED MODEL IS JUST OVER 7 INCH LONG, THIS IS AIMED AT THE REALLY SERIOUS STAR WARS MODELLER, NOT SOME ONE WHO THINKS FOR A RRP OF £119.99 IS GETTING SOME MASSIVE KIT.   YOU WILL BE BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED.  SO IF YOU BUY THIS AND RING ME UP SAYING IT NOT WORTH IT YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

FOR THOSE WHO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING EX FINE MOLD, THEN I AM SURE YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH YOUR PURCHASE.

P.S.   I think this will up with bad publicity for Revell if it is picked up by a member of the general public and not in the modellers world.

Not a fan of sci -fi but do like Star Wars movies but I saw the same listed in a big mail order retailer and was equally shocked... I was wondering if its not a typo mistake wit the extra '1' or the '9' !!!

119? Wow... I noticed that some of their other SW kits are heavily overprized IMHO. The big snap AT-AT is a lot more expensive than it cost when it was first released some years ago. The Republich Star Destroyer was in a shop here yesterday for 99 Euros... Same as the Zevezda ISD! My memory says this was maxium half the price. I cannot tell for sure because I got it as a present. I positively know that I bought the AT-AT for 15 Euros in a sale back then and that I saw two on a shelf in another LHS for 50 Euros, when these were already going for more on the collectors market. In my view the new Revell prices are partly even higher than the collectors prices of the same kits when they were sought after last year. From my perspective it will end with "huge" savings on these kits in internet stores, while the LHS is stuck with overly expensive plastic.

The fact that Tiger Hobbies gives such a warning speaks volumes.

That said I am not sure how much Disney is involved in the retail prices.

Yes with dealer discount you will get it cheaper but as Revell Distributors we have to sell at a near RRP, but even with discount £95.00 with postage for 400 grams of cardboard and plastic is taking the Piddle.

I think the last poster was right Disney Licence will have a lot to do with this.

If this was in its original Fine Mold Box with very few coming into the UK for the serious boys, this would not have been on the radar, but it is now in the hands of mas market and that gets noticed by the general public.

Don't get me wrong we have Zoukei Mura Resin sets that would make a member of the general public eyes water, but this is for specialist modellers who know why we charge that price, and very few are in the country.
