Modelcollect have arrived at BlackMike Models

Recommended Posts

I have added another Brand for the 1/72 scale Military modellers out there. Modelcollect are a fairly new Company specialising in 1/72 scale modern Russian armour and WW2 German 'blue print' armour. Most kits include some metal parts (turned gun barrels or metal hull etc) and/or photo-etch. I have already acquired some and they are incredibly well detailed for the scale.

I will be starting off with some of the modern Russian armour and vehicles and will see how they go, if there is a big enough demand I will bring in some of the German WW2 'What if's'.

Not bad for a Braille kit.....Just in case anyone has doubts about what we are talking about here!  :coolio:

PS - Still think Black Duncan Sounds better.  :D

Thanks for posting that, great photo. Is there any glue that works with those tracks? My T-72 has those and the option of plastic track links and I am still unsure which would be best to use.

p.s. "Black Duncan" is apparently the boggy-man in Northumberland folk lore so I was told many years ago, maybe you are drawn to the dark? I'll stick with being nicknamed after a famous, all black, FG1 Phantom.

Or Air Vice Marshal Clifford "Black Mike" McEwen RCAF perhaps? :wonder:

They look a lot like Dragon's DS-100, so allegedly they will glue with poly-cement.....I tried it, didn't like what I was seeing so I used CA, which nailed them solid.

Keep in mind though that I don't paint or undercoat anything before assembly, I build the lot and then prime & paint it as a whole or as a series of subassemblies.

If you get the choice of hard plastic L&L track, use it!  Individual track links aren't flexible and band tracks always wind up with distorted links around the idler & sprocket, L&L will always look better if it is fitted with care.  :nerd:

What sort of tank is that?  :hmmm:

PS - Maybe open a thread for your T-72 in Armour WIP, I'll join you when my Syrian example arrives & we can compare notes?  I'll be building the Revell T-72M too, so it's an opportunity to compare the bits, which I suspect won't hurt Modelcollect's popularity hereabouts too badly at all.  ;)

Thanks, you have answered another question that was floating around in my head with regards to painting then build or build then paint.

The Phantom was definitely a tank with wings!

Thanks for letting me know it arrived safely, I look forward to seeing what you will do with it (I note your one has a turned metal barrel whereas mine has a metal lower hull). Gun envy!

I will be doing a restock of the Modelcollect kits soon as i have sold out of quite a few of them now so i will see if any T-62s are available.

I got a metal hull too.....Not too convinced about those, but we'll see how it goes.

Don't think they have released their T-62 range yet.....But they should be pretty popular as, to date, the ESCI/Italeri POS is the only offering in Braille.

That explains why I couldn’t find it. Anyhow some more Modelcollect kits are inbound.

Allegedly Trumpeter have a T-62 in the offing too, but it won't be a patch on the Modelcollect version (unless the latter get something badly wrong):

'QB POS' is the first thing that springs to mind on seeing those parts.

Good choices!  I can highly recommend any of the Modelcollect BMP-3s.....They are a step beyond your typical AFV kit.  B)

I know @Nigel Heath is looking in here, so I'd direct his attention to the BMP-3 with slat armour.....What a kit!  :o

If Modelcollect can do this in 1/72 for a BMP-3, why can't Airfix (or Eduard, or somebody please) do it in 1/48 for their Warrior?  :hmmm:

Pardon my utter ignorance of things that don’t fly, but is the T-62 the one that Israelis captured in large numbers in 1973(?) and modded them for their own use? That turret looks familiar. That sort of appeals to me. I remember a modelling competition in my local IPMS branch many aeons ago called “Under New Management”.

If it is and is available in 1/72 (or 1/76) I might just give it a go............

Most of the tanks you were thinking of (the Tiran family) were converted from T-54s or T-55s, but the Tiran 6 was based on the T-62

ACE do both flavours in 1/72:

ace72157.jpg

T-54/55 based

ace72158.jpg

T-62 based

I would expect either of these to be not less than extremely challenging.....I have their Chinese Type 59 which is from the same base tool as the Tiran 4/5 and you have to reposition the entire lower suspension by several mm, it's moulded onto the hull so that's not a small change.

A kit-bash with the Revell or Trumpeter T-55 for the Tiran 4/5 or a Trumpeter T-62 for the Tiran 6 might be a viable (if expensive) possibility, the basic shape of ACE parts is typically very good, but it sometimes feels like you have to whittle the details out of solid plastic lumps.....Think old Amodel and you are on the right track.

I suspect Modelcollect might eventually do the Tiran 6, Israeli armour is always popular and they seem to release a million variants of each basic type (Hence my confusion with their various T-64BMs.....Is any of them actually a Bulat?).

Black Dog do a resin Tiran 4 conversion set for the Trumpeter T-55.....This may be a less painful option:

https://www.bnamodelworld.com/military-vehicles-tanks-for-1:72-scale-black-dog-bd-t72062?zenid=9212dd55ac5df1258af2c9afc570f5e0

By the looks of it the Black Dog Tiran 4 is barely modifed from the base tank (same gun, same engine).....I'd imagine you would prefer the version with the British L7 & US engine as depicted by ACE (Tiran 4sh apparently)?  :hmmm:

Israeli armour isn't really my thing and I've only just got into post 1945 subjects, so I'm learning as I go here.  ;)

It's what three quid dearer than their standard BMP-3?

I reckon an etch set of that complexity would set you back a lot more than that.....Staggering detail for the scale, but not even slightly for the faint-hearted!  :o

PS - If anyone is building Soviet/Russian/Ukrainian armour in 1/72 and want a few shiny things for their model, I highly recommend the Zedval tank detail sets:
