gavingav1
Depends what you mean by best, the academy line of 1/350th ships (uss indianapolis - http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/ca/ca-35/350-acy/acy-review.html , graf spee-http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/dkm/graf-spee/350-acy/acy-review.html and hms warspite -http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/hms/bb/warspite-350-acy/acy-review.html ) are very nice kits, reasonably cheap and somewhat better than the more expensive trumpeter counterparts in some respects, absolute best of the best will be different for everybody but here are a few nice kits , hasegawa nagato - http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10062628 , revell bismark - http://www.malaysiascalemodelling.com/reviews/reviews-naval/29-revell-bismarck-1350.html To be honest the majority of the tamiya kits are old now and from the 70's and are not upto current standards

I would however, disagree that all Tamiya kits are from the 70's. It is true that the original Tamiya kits that date from the 70s, (KGV, PoW, Bismarck, etc) are a little rough in detail, but in the last 10 years or so Tamiya has released some kits that are top notch and are the best compromise for ease of build and accuracy as well as really nifty ways to provide a waterline or full hull option. I am thinking of the Japanese cruisers, Mikuma, Mogami, Chikuma, Tone, destroyer Yukikaze or the NEW MOULD Yamato (kit #78025) with the hardest part being finding them. They are not easy kits to find but great to build. I would also look at some of Hasegawa's kits in addition to the Nagato, the new Junyo, the Gambier Bay or the Agano. Full disclosure, I have a Nagato kit for sale right now if you are interested.
