Macchi 200 Saetta 150°Gruppo, 1/48

Recommended Posts

Hello folks.

The 150° Gruppo Autonomo flew MC 200 before switching to MC202 and the horses were weary and tired from constant use in the desert in 42. I used a picture of the plane inAli d'Italia book n° 8 page 37 to weather my Mqacchi accordingly. The Italeri model is a basic kit to start with but needs a lot of improvements to reach a decent representation of the real thing. The canopy and the cockpit are from Pavla, the whell bay and connection cables are scrachbuilt using pictures of the real thing to be correct, all rivets were filled and sanded, and more details had to be scratchbuilt. All markings but the insignia of the "Gigi tre osei" were home made with the Silhouette. So here are the pictures:

Hi Jean,

outstanding result on this Saetta. One has an idea of all the improvements you made through the photos. It is quite mind boggling.

Is the annular radiator from the kit, or did you have to slog through this one as well?

Congratulations are in order!

Must have been hell flying under the hot desert sand if not for the Saettas' open canopies.Putting aside the physical pain suffered by those involved in North Africa,I must say your Saetta is Beautifully done and the weathering looks very convincing.

Lovely model...on side note, a guy I knew long ago was a Ferrari fan.  He said that they were great cars except for the fact that they leaked oil all over the place.  Very much like your weathering...  Superb example of a well-used aircraft in the worst of conditions.

It's great well done! I really love your ww2 Italian stuff that can be found online, a kind of masterpieces of that genre imho. I made one Italeri Saetta and have another one in plan so I'll try to go a bit your way :-)
