Hurricane and Swordfish - Airfix 1/72

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I finished this build in June this year... But finally I've found some time and a good sheet of white paper to make pictures and post them here... This is my ready for inspection Hurricane and Swordfish (Airfix, 1/72) from Operation Torch kit.

Here you see the building process (I still didn't move all the pictures from the PhotoBucket, but if you got a proper add-on for your browser you may see them all):

It was a lovely build. As you may see I continued experimenting with weathering. Also it was my first experience with rigging.

Hurricane was built straight from the box. And Swordfish got Eduard zoom set, AMMO rigging line, Albion tubes and beading wire. Swordfish also shows a canvas patchwork on the portside and some of the engine cowling panels replaced from another Swordfish with different camouflage.

I think someone needs to have a word with the stringbag's armourers.  They're getting a bit forgetful eh? ;)

Cracking, cracking builds.  I am always impressed by rigging on 1/72 kits, but this looks especially good.

Those are brilliant. Especially the Swordfish.

The weathering is some of the best I've seen in this scale. Realistic not artistic. And I like the properly grubby undersurfaces.

Outstanding kits, both of them. I will join everybody else to congratulate you on the weathering!

I am attempting to build a D520 from the other side, you know, the bad guys? But I have no intention to try and emulate your results.

Well done

Thanks mate. Actually it was my first experience with rigging and although it looks fine, but I think it is a little over scaled. This method probably would look more appropriate for 1/48

Superb weathering

Thank you all for praising my weathering. However I still think have lot to learn. And try to do a little experimenting each build.

Hi Jean, are you referring to  Dewoitine D.520?

yes Vadim, I am. It will have the red an yellow stripes of the Vichy French air force. Actually in that case it will belong to the French Navy (Aeronavale).

Cheers
