Douglas D-558-I Skystreak 1:72

Recommended Posts

Before i make a short break to visit friends, here the Crimson Test Tube, a Navy jet in full polished color! 3 speed records but lost Mach 1 race against X-1. I love it. As in April/May 1947, before cockpit conversion.

Cheers!

Nice! I remember seeing this machine. In Quantico MCAS museum in 1981, I think?

According to the web, #1, BuNo 37970, is at the NAM in Pensacola #2,  BuNo 37972, is at the Carolinas Aviation Museum

Mike

Wish I had taken more photos of #1 the last time I visited the museum, but then again that was before the Special Hobby kit was released.

Which Kit? I built the Anigrand version several years ago. Wish it had come out as well as yours.

Thank you guys!

I am back from the trip to Hamburg.

I used Humbrol insignia red with some white. There is an old Douglas corporate movie of the roll out, the speaker spoke of ....layers of polished insignia red......

its the small special hobby rendition. the whole story of the build is in ModellFan 2011 12. It is superdetailed and corrected in some respects. As 72modeller said, my model is 37970, now in Pensacola.
