fjaweijfopi4j48
I accidentally dropped the model on the floor (I mentioned before that we are remodeling -sigh...- and someone made a big thud that startled me) One of the mudguards fell off, never to be found again: Since those photo-etched mudguards were flat anyway as I mentioned before, I took the opportunity to make more accurate vacuum-forming ones on some spare wheels: Partially shaped while still attached to the backing sheet to facilitate the task: They are cut off: trimmed to size: And then glued on. I also discovered while looking at photos that the mudguards in this case did not have the reinforcement little bars:
fjaweijfopi4j48
Further somewhat convoluted masking and the third stage of painting will follow. Why is always more complicated than what was in our heads?
fjaweijfopi4j48
The house repairs advanced to the interior. No joke. I managed -in the middle of the general dismantling and schizophrenic run-arounds- to apply the third coat of paint. Don't ask me how. The masks are taken off revealing the complex scheme (look at the pile of individual masks in the last photo). Since my usual setting is disassembled, this is nigh-time and chaos reigns, the photos are so-so, but give an idea of the nice scheme. Some touch-ups may be needed, and of course decals need to be applied, but it's not looking bad:
fjaweijfopi4j48
Getting closer to completion The parts to be added on the left: The belly of the beast. Wheels, aileron linkages, wind-driven generator, landing lights, all glued in place: Still to add are two antennas on top:
amblypygid
That is a very striking (and beautifully finished) scheme.

A relic from the Psychedelic 60's, a time when children could play with electrified and hot-operating devices. The Mattel came with male molds so children could form "toys". The machine came with molds to create interesting objects for girls and boys alike, and to me is an example of a well-designed toy that endured years of use and was able to please and provide joy for girls and boys equally. I know the market is now limited, but it seems strange that no manufacturer came up with a modern replacement for this machine with its simplicity and easiness of operation (not the mention relatively low cost). I got mine the usual way, second hand market. There are "upgrade" kits available for worn-down machines (mine was pristine, luckily). Some of those kits are good, some aren't. The main problem now is getting the plastic sheets. Most of the ones sold online do not work properly. My supplier for years went out to other business ventures recently, leaving me with a quickly-dwindling stack of clear (to make canopies) and opaque sheets. Once you learn how to use it (and it doesn't take long), the Mattel becomes a wonderful ally for scratchbuilding endeavors. I have used mine hundreds of times now. fjaweijfopi4j48
By now I figured out how to post photos from Flickr in a way that they don't appear on my photostream. So, good news, the decals I purchased from Arctic Decals arrived, and they are beautiful! They also include the "metal" frames for the windows and door!
fjaweijfopi4j48
Decal application has began. There is still some way to go, details to add, etc. I'll be seeing you soon hopefully in the "Ready for Refection" section. 'Till then.

Roger Holden
That's a very attractive plane ! Looks like the decals will become available, so I might get myself a set. There was an article in an Italian IPMS mag which has a profile describing the colours and the 'L' in the Libeccio nose titling was apparently in red. It also says the registration outline is white, although that could well be wrong. Our mutual friend has also forgotten the circular prop logos; maybe one of your Italian contacts knows what type they are ? Let me know if you need the IPMS article and I'll send you the Pdf. Our mutual friend has also forgotten the circular prop logos; maybe one of your Italian contacts knows what type they are ? Let me know if you need the IPMS article and I'll send you the Pdf. Hi Roger I had available that material long ago, and dismissed a couple assertions, contesting them with photos, other sources and the input from Italian aviation contacts. One of the reasons for the extremely protracted building was to ascertain those colors, as far as it could be done at the time. As you well know, the fact that someone prints something doesn't make it true. Although unavoidably makes the mistake repeat itself and become consensus. In any case, as we all know, and disregarding the option for time traveling, we had to make sometimes assumptions, inferences and deductions. No ultimate word on this. I may be wrong, but for sure I looked hard and long. I am sure the decal maker can add those prop logos. It's been some time since I did the research, but iirc those were alpha romeo round logos, easily found on the Net. They will be in any case dots of less than a millimeter. No printing resolution could really honor the original graphic. In any case, we modelers are such a peculiar breed. Facing an outstanding set perfectly printed, we focus on misses.
fjaweijfopi4j48
Speaking of misses, I had missed some inverted "T" small objects underneath the wing tips, so I am replicating them, whilst applying the "metal" frames, which fitted perfectly and look very nice:
