1/72 Hasegawa Mosquito Mk.XIII Night Fighter

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow Britmodellers,

here's my 1/72 Hasegawa Mosquito Mk.XIII "Night Fighter" from 29. Squadron, 1945.

Released as a "Limited Edition" boxing this summer, the kit contains resin parts for the wing tanks and nose.

I added True Details wheels, but forgot to add the White "T" decal for the nose ... sorry.

Painted with acrylics from the Gunze/Mr.Hobby range.

Photos by Wolfgang Rabel of IGM Cars & Bikes.

Greetings from Vienna!

That’s a very nicely done Mosquito Roman.

The very subtle panel line shading looks very good, the True Details wheels excelllent.

:goodjob:

Thanks for your kind comments.

This kit is really interesting, as it isn't just another 'version', but actually a 'conversion', involving some plastic surgery.

You need to cut the kit's parts for the nose according to instructions:

Hi My Friend Roman!!!!

Congratulations for ending another masterpiece!!!

In the end this build seem have been a great one as it looks, nice to watch a rare version of this nice bird in those resplendent colors. I like the way you have ended this build, the colorful letters give a lot of contrast  for the finished work together with the camouflage,  and liked a huge lot the wonderful weathering. Really  looks impressive!!!

Thank you very much for sharing!!!

Cheers,

Luis Alfonso

Another awesome job!

I have read comparisons of the 1/72 Hasegawa kit with the Tamiya kit of the same scale.

Mostly the Tamiya ends up the popular choice, but your work on the Hasegawa doesn't suggest it is much the inferior of the two.

Well done!

A lovely job on this Roman. I've this kit in stock & admit to having reservations about Hasegawa's resin nose, I think it may not be quite "nosy" enough, but that is no reflection on the beautiful job you've made with your build. :)

I see what you mean Steve.  At first glance the nose looks like a standard FBVI with the Brownings removed, whereas it should be more pronounced.  No reflection on Roman's build though, which is superb.    I've been wanting to build Branse Burbridge's 85 Squadron aircraft but have baulked somewhat at the eye-watering price Hasegawa's kits are going for.  As the nose doesn't look quite right I wonder if I might be better off converting the Airfix FBVI.

I think you might as well quite honestly. If you can work a trick or two with milliput or similar, it shouldn't be too hard. As I see it, the XII/XIII nose was a blunt cone with a dome on the end. The Camouflage & Marking series for the Mosquito has a good five view which seems to agree with photos I've seen more than the Hasegawa nose. Come the day I'll be doing some plastic surgery, aka doing a nose job on mine. Roman's is the first of these I've seen made & for all that he has done it beautifully, it confirms my suspicions on opening the box. :(

Thanks for the piccies, Steve.  I think i will go for the Airfix option and create a new nose somehow.  The old kit still stands up pretty well in my view, possibly because of the limited number of panel lines.
