Jack109
Good day I am doing the ZVEZDA 7302 Messerschmitt B-109 F2 Snap Fit Aircraft Model Kit 1:72 which is like the photo below. I have a question about that decoration/thing/cover around the tail. What is that and what was used for? I have never seen it before. Thank you! Corsairfoxfouruncle
Im guessing it was a celebration of sorts. Looks like a victory wreath to me. Ive seen photos of when german pilots reached a milestone number of kills/victories. Usually at numbers like 50,100, & 200 and so on over the allies. There would be a wreath wrapped around the tail of the aircraft and a celebration. Some of them would actually have the wreath painted on afterwards. I actually have a decal set like that. On the other hand it could be Christmas too ? The plane is in winter camouflage. And the Germans did celebrate christmas. But my thinking is it is a victory wreath.
Jack109
Thank you @Corsairfoxfouruncle good thinking, I see there is a number 50 on the tail now that I look at it closer. They can not fly with that right? they put it on only for a decoration for a limited time? thats fascinating
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Yes its only for ground decoration. They would paint the wreath around the # afterwards.
